The Silent Danger of Barbecues!

Barbecues, appear to have become the 'must have', in people's lives nowadays...though the attraction, really escapes me, possibly because we are neither meat nor fish eaters. A warm Summer's day, brings them out in the hundreds, evidenced by the smells drifting across the garden, from other people's land, and great that they can enjoy their outdoor pursuits. The dark side of barbeques, isn't always so evident to people, and something they should be aware of...that once the Charcoal loses it's glow,is when it becomes deadly, as it continues to pump out Carbon Monoxide fumes, and often you see Campers, especially, lift that deadly weapon, into their tents. This practice has resulted in several deaths/emergencies, that are avoidable, so why aren't big Warning labels applied to all barbeque equipment by law. "Around the world, millions of people rely on burning carbon-based fuels in poorly ventilated homes. And an unknown number will be suffering from the effects of inhaling this poisonous gas." Even when the appliance is cold, it can continue to spread it's Silent killer, in a confined space. source:bbc.co.uk

BBQ's can be very dangerous. Even those propane gas ones. Those tanks can explode. I had different BBQ's through the years and now I finally got me a nice electric BBQ. And believe me, it cooks just like a regular one and the food tastes just as good. No charcoal needed, no gas either.

My husband has trail of cancer cells that is very active, that is why we avoid barbecues. I think we will have it once a year only.

In spite of warnings people do burn charcoal in closed spaces. Also they do not realize the pollution from burning candles indoors. I admit that I like a good wood fire in the fall and food smoked over fragrant wood, but we also have a bigger variety in our menu.

Fortunately I do not have any liking for barbeque. I have sore throat after eating barbeque food, and I do not like the smell to linger on my T-shirts.

I thought I was just odd not being a lover of barbecues although we have had them in the past I am not really comfortable about them.

Barbecues are dangerous outside, too. All combustion of organic matter produces the same four toxins. If people use special wood sticks for flavoring, there's also particulate which can get in the lungs.

I have read so many discussions (and post) about the pleasure of barbecue that I thought to be the only one who does not appreciate this method of cooking. Barbecues are dangerous, not only for the carbon monoxide, but even because the food cooked with that method can be carcinogen.
