Be Very Observant and Careful

On this laptop I have a tendency to accidentally click on things that I do not mean to. I did that last night, and ended up with an offer for Cyber Webcam. I clicked it off, exed it out whatever. At least I thought so. Not long after I noticed my webcam was on!! I did not turn it on. I could not get rid of it either. I have heard about people spying through the webcam. Scary to me. So I put a little piece of sticky paper over the camera to obscure it. When I shut all of my tabs, that ad was still there. It was "under" everything else. My webcam went off when I clicked that ad off again. I do not know who was on the other end, but it was scary to me. Be very careful, and observant.

The pop under adverts can easily be unnoticed and remain in the background for quite some time. Are you using the touchpad on the laptop? This can precarious even after you have got used to using it, so I always use a mouse.

I would like to get a mouse for it and will probably do so soon.

I have to admit that I haven't been doing that. Well my webcam is now covered. I am pretty sure that it hasn't been on. But you never know. ...

There was a light that came on on my webcam on my laptop. I never have been in the habit of covering it

I don't use a laptop, but if I ever get one, I will have tape over the webcam. But you gave me an idea. Maybe I will use The Boy's laptop while he's gone this morning.

Glad that you noticed it. I have put a sticky over my webcam lenses for months now. I always make sure that they are disabled but I block them just to be on the safe side.

I guess I do not know how to disable them. I have been concerned ever since that school in PA was spying on students with school owned laptops.

There is very little we know about what is going in this complicated technical world including bits and bytes despite having attended courses

I agree with you. I feel pretty blind about some of these things.

Thank you the advice. Ill alert my family on this. Should you just have it reformat so evrything will be erased?

No, I do not think reformatting would help. I just keep the lens covered now.
