Of Cereal and Ziploc Bags

I was wondering why cereal isn't packaged in ziploc bags. 'Cause it's more practical, right?
So I typed "ziploc cereal bags" on Google Search. Here's what I found:
Most search results were people asking why cereal bags don't have ziploc closure - the same thing I was wondering about.
The top search result though, was an article in the "Advertising" section of the July 14th, 1987 issue of NY Times, saying that Post (the cereal brand) had introduced cereal bags with ziploc closure.
That was 1987.
How come I've never seen those bags here? We have Post in the local stores too but the bags are the typical liners that you have to tear to open. Other brands don't package theirs in ziploc bags either.
What happened to the 1987 ziploc cereal bags?

Someone said that cereal that goes stale in bags that don't reseal well prompts new purchases, so they're purposely packaged that way, haha. I don't know how true that is though.
I usually use bag clips to seal the cereal. Using sealed canisters is a good idea too.

@cahaya1983 I get bored with cereals not more than once a fortnight or even longer perhaps.

@sofssu My toddler loves it though. So it's normal to find pieces of cereal at random places in the house.

Air tight containers are good, too. We eat cereal every now and then, it's not really a typical breakfast menu in my house.

@cahaya1983 Yes it certainly does vary from product to product, which will be related to the quality of packaging sed.

It depends on the type of material too, I think. Some types aren't very durable. But I bought snacks that come in ziplock packaging and they lasted pretty long.

Oh, were they sealed well though? I bought some wafers packaged in ziploc bags too and they lasted quite long. Maybe it depends on the quality of the bags too, I don't know.

@cahaya1983 Yeah maybe it depends on how their ziplock pack was made .

I just realized there aren't that many products sold in ziploc bags here. The dried fruits are sold in sealed vacuum bags, mostly.

I usually put sugar in a jar because I'd use a spoon to take it anyway but yeah it would be convenient if flour is packaged in resealable bags.
Interestingly they sell rice in ziploc bags here, but not flour.

@crazyhorseladycx Yeah I've seen rice being sold in those bags. I'm okay with using biodegradable plastics, and I think many companies have started using eco-friendly packaging, which is a good thing.

Then I hope they'd come up with ziplock bags that are durable and can ensure the freshness of the cereal! Okay I'm biased. I just love those bags.

I like the idea, too. Or make the packages themselves recyclable. I know some recycle drop-offs accept liners made from HDPE, and most cereal liners are made from that. Some ziplock bags are also biodegradable.

It's possible, unless the seal is of good quality. Some become loose quicker than others.

One reason might be the weight of the cereals opening to zip when it falls or get dropped accidentally. More since its cereals you have to make sure that the moisture do not seep, one risk when the ziplock bag open is this.

If it's poorly sealed then I guess that could happen, but if the resealable bags are of good quality it most likely wouldn't. I'm not sure about absorbing moisture though, it can happen with the usual liners too if they're not closed well, right?

I wonder the same thing. I rip open the bag and pour it all into my own ziplock and place back in the box

I usually use the bag clips to close the bag. I probably should start putting them in an airtight container next time.
