Fresh Meat

It is payday, and the grocery circulars come out for Wednesday through Tuesday. There is a market in a nearby town and the prices on the meat looked good. We got there and were very pleasantly surprised. The meat we wanted, the ground beef and roasts and steaks were all in a butcher counter. The clerks weighed and packaged the meat while you watched. I have meats packed in old fashioned butcher paper. No plastic. Now there is some prepackaged meats. I paid 3,88 for ten pounds of chicken legs and thighs, like what I cooked today. It comes bagged and frozen. Their produce did not look great to me, but the meat is great. We bought meat, a half gallon of milk, and some cleaning products for fifty dollars. I think I got enough meat for at least two weeks. I do not think I have lived in a place where you could get meat wrapped in butcher paper in over forty years.

We still have our meet cut and packaged while we watch and always in butcher paper. The chicken legs here are much more expensive. I would love to be able to pay that price.

The price on the chicken is unusual. The same product at Wal Mart is $7.90. I feel like we have found a treasure in this market.

We do have such a store a couple towns away. I used to go there often but their prices are a bit high so no more now that we are retired. I do like getting the exact piece of steak I want in the exact size though.

I will probably only buy what is in their sale circular as they are really lower than any place else. Their eggs were more than a dollar a dozen cheaper, but I have plenty of eggs.

Nice deal! I don't think I've ever gotten meat wrapped in butcher paper.. except for the one time we went to a real butcher because my husband said they had an awesome meatloaf and meatball mix so we went to try some.

I think meat came that way when I was a kid. It was great to see the fresh meat and know it was good stuff.

Wow, I don't think I've seen that here. Butcher paper sounds more eco-friendly than plastic, though.

That is how I feel. I do not like getting my meat in those plastic wrapped chubs.

In our area it costs a lot more to go someplace like that. I miss the says when they flyers come out with the sunday paper and went Sunday to Sunday. It throws me off when they come out in the middle of the week like that.

I was surprised to see the meat prices and that is why we went. Where we have just moved to there is only a little market store, specializes in fresh baked desserts and breads. Other stores are from ten to sixty miles away. I will not be running out all the time for just one thing. Hubby works in two different Wal Mart stores as a merchandiser and can pick stuff up without it costing us a trip. Our circulars have all come out on Tuesday sale starting Wednesday for the longest time. Sunday papers might have an extra sale.

It feels so environmentally friendly. Oh, and all the meat is sourced in the US. They also have sausages that they make on site.

Meat from the meat market and butcher is fresh and that's a good thing. The meat market isn't too close where I am but I wouldn't mind going to one. We could use some fresh meats.

In many of the stores your meat is in a closed plastic tube, you cannot see what it even looks like. If it is cryo wrapped it may have had co2 injected to keep it red. I love seeing the fresh meat and seeing it done up.

From were we lived, I can buy and choose the meat I want to buy and request to cut/trim it to my liking. I never encountered meat wrapped in butcher paper, though. The shop we buy the meat from uses small plastic bags.
