Me And My Guru

A favourite social and personal history photo of me from my collection. This is a photo of me with the bedroom shrine portrait I had of my former cult Guru, Maharaji, of (he is now using the name Prem Pal Rawat Sing), leader of The Divine Light Mission (Prem Rawat Foundation). It was taken by a reporter when I first went public about my brainwashing experiences.
Including a warning leaflet on cults helps the image capture the message more neatly. I look haggard and angry in the photo (taken in about 1989 and about four years after my escape).

they certainly were - even his own mother famously denounced him as a charlatan

@arthurchappell This man was particularly bad if even his mother denounced him.

@LadyDuck extremely bad - one critic was beaten up by his followers and left brain damaged and he is believed to have killed a man in a hit and run car crash too but that was never proved

@Ruby3881 getting out was not that hard as there was a lot of inflighting in the local branch at the time and they barely noticed I left - others quit too at that time

I remember that creepy character when all the cults were in the news. Glad that you escaped!
