Do you chew gum? And what do you do with it afterwards?

A campaign group has recently been busy on the pavements in London's Oxford Street, marking every piece of discarded chewing gum with a yellow circle. The result is startling, with the pavement looking as though it has developed a particularly unpleasant rash - there are thousands of pieces of gum littering the street and getting stuck of the shoes of pedestrians.
It has been estimated that the gum dropped on Oxford Street and Regent Street (the two busiest shopping streets in Central London) in a year would be enough to cover 12 football pitches!
As you might imagine, the cost to the public purse of removing the gum is enormous, especially as this is a blight that affects street not only in London but across the country.
I confess to being one of the righteous ones, in that I have never chewed gum in my life and neither have I smoked. I have never therefore been guilty of throwing either gum or cigarette ends on the street - or any litter at all if I can possibly help it.
However, there are plenty of people who do, even when there are litter bins close at hand for the very purpose of receiving unwanted rubbish. How I wish that people would be more socially aware when smoking or chewing gum!

I do chew gum from time to time. I wrap the used piece in the wrapper and put it in the trash.

It is a problem for sure. Here too the same.
If I have anything to throw away, if there are no bins around, I put it in my bag.

I chew gum but I behave like a sane person and throw it in a dustbin after I am done!! When I was 10-11 years old then as a joke I used to stick it under table s that accidentaly someone may touch it but as a grown up I behave in a sensible way!!

I chew gum quite a bit, but I never spit it out on the sidewalk or pavement. I either throw it in a trash can, or I'll spit it out into some nearby bushes, trees or grass. I usually try to spit my gum where I know it won't be stepped on or will become an eyesore.

I hold my hands up, I chew gum from time to time to freshen up my breath when I'm out and about. I don't chew it like a cow chewing on grass as I've seen some people do. I'm so discreet you may not even realise I've got gum in my mouth. I don't blow huge bubbles and make lot noises with it. When I'm done with it, believe it or not, I find a piece of paper or tissue in my bag, wrap it up and throw it in a bin as soon as I can.
However, i have noticed that a lot of people are very careless with it and throw it everywhere. This is unacceptable and GROSS.

I rarely if ever chew gum! I just don't see the point. I know people who are always chewing it. I heard it was bad for your teeth and I hate people chewing with their mouths open. I know at work I have had to scrap it off the floor so gross and rude.

I don't chew gum much. When I am outside I do discard the gum into the open air, but I don't think it will be a problem in the woods or the open fields. I know something will come along later and eat it. If not, it will be an oddly colored rock in the future. If I'm near a trash bin it goes in it. Worse case scenario I swallow it.

Chewing gums to cover 12 football pitches? Wah! & why? Don't they know that after chewing gums, all they can do is put it back on its wrapper (or just in a tissue or a piece of paper), then throw it in a waste basket or bin, instead of simply flipping them out anywhere? Gosh!

Imagine if all those gums are being strewn in elevators, escalators doors, train doors, walls of public buildings and the list goes on - so it will be costly for the maintenance to remove these gums. And it is no wonder some countries are banning chewing gums like Singapore.
