Stick to The Discussion

I have notice in Discussions so many people going off the Subject and not responding to what has been said in the Discussions.
Just today I have seen this in about 4 different Discussions.
Please keep to the Subject in the Discussions.
If you can't then don't respond at All.

I have seen comment threads head off in another direction, but it's all good for the poster as far as interaction goes. But it might be even better to save the idea and write a post on it separately, rather than use up all your ideas on the subject in a comment.

I have had some fun with this discussion and the form it has taken.

@MarshaMusselman Posting does earn you money, but only if people respond. That's interaction, too. That's why I said that it doesn't matter if they go off on tangents, it's all interaction for the OP (original poster). Just writing the post earns nothing. It only earns if people respond to it and the more the merrier.

but it is so much fun here when they do. unfortunately I don't have the wisdom to come up with some of the laughs like I get from others here

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Janet. If a discussion doesn't have any responses related to the topic at hand, then the person could try again with a different approach. The longer we write on these sites the more versatile we should become in saying the same thing but in different ways or words.

This has happened on my discussions before and it doesn't bother me. Normally the original comment is about the discussion but in the process of commenting back and forth, it does get off topic. I learn so much about people this way.

@maggs224 And, if we want the interaction, then I'd think we should be willing to take what we can get. Some members revel (wd?) in this type of interactions and seek them out.

I think that sometimes people have different thoughts on a given subject too. I am not saying that may be the issue in this instance but it does happen at times.

you may be right in that and we should but as in real life we often veer off a little. sorry.

@bunnybon7 Because I am easily distracted (both off and on-line) I very often veer off too, but I have found that because of this I have ended up in some very interesting places and found out some very interesting things.

@MarshaMusselman
I usually get many responses to my posts and most of the responses are on that particular subject. I don't think many people hijack a discussion.

I can see if that's all that is discussed, the other persons thread, that would be annoying, but did no one respond to your actual discussion?
When that sort of thing happened on the old site it was as if the readers weren't even reading the post to begin with. Whether that is what is happening for many of the discussion-highjackings here is a question only those doing the highjacking can answer, I suppose.
It would probably take a bit of research, or at least jotting down notes when this sort of thing is seen to determine whether that's only the type of responding certain members make on a regular basis. If that is found to be true, I don't know whether blocking those individuals would stop them from being able to comment/respond to our discussions or not. If it would, that would be something those authors that hate this could do.
I wouldn't know what I'd think about it until I see if that is a common thing happening on my posts on a regular basis.

That's the same as it is in real life - it happens all the time, so why not here too.

some folks jest seem to ride that way. i don't reckon i'd figured't 's some evil plot to derail the original discussion. i'll do my best to refrain...

Often by the time I have finished reading all the comments on the discussion and sometimes responding as I read I am in danger of forgetting what the original post is all about in the process. I know that I have posts that have taken on a life of their own in the comments but I actually like it when that happens. I am sorry if people like me give you problems it is not what I set out to do. I just get lost in the fun of interacting with people :(

It looks like she was joking all along and just being nice to provide fodder for off topic discussion afterall. (Just in case some of this came out in the wash after you stopped by to relay your views here and above).

It's all about having fun and interacting. As long as you're interacting then who cares if you're staying on subject or not. The best types of conversations are the ones where you jump to a bunch of different topics because that just keeps the interaction going.

I like elephants too - joking, but yes I see lots of comments of no relevance to the topic under discussion or continuity to what other commentators have already contributed.

@Marcyaz it is better to get an off topic and at tangents reply than no reply as it still boosts our credit

Where is Howard, is he missing in action again?
But now that a dear friend has arrived, I can have anything here on this box as I am not responding to the OP
