Lots of Good Fun October 25, 2015

When we decided to move to this community, we knew we were moving across from a large vacant lot. It turns out that vacant lot is where the football field was when this town had its own schools. Someone had a plan for it. A fundraiser had been started and evidently completed to acquire enough money for a disc golf course.(Frisbee golf). A week or so ago the "holes" were installed. These are baskets made of chains on poles. Almost every day there is someone there playing. Morning, evening, at lunch time. It draws church youth groups and families and friends. It is entertaining for hubby and I to watch. Certain people seem to be really hooked on the activity and show up all of the time. It is a gentle form of exercise that everyone enjoys. This is just one of the good things in my life. How about you, do you have something fun in your community?

I've never heard of disc golf, but it sounds like it would be fun to watch or participate in. We have a unique very beautiful park out here in our village, they put a long wide sidewalk all of the way around it for walkers and rollerbladers. It is so peaceful to walk on that.

There are people who just walk around this area. In my previous community they had a walk like you describe around a man made "lake'.

@GardenGerty I love our walking path, you can go it alone and relax or join up with others, it totals just over a mile in length, this is only a short portion of it.

Nothing much going on here. My brother's office is having pajama day and he will be wearing his today. I hope he stays warm because it is really cold out this morning.

@simone you get to stay home in your pajamas. What kind of office does he work in that has a pajama day?

One of my ex's played frisbee golf and loved it. We would travel around the area and find new courses for him to play on. I could not get the hang of it but most of the places were connected to parks and me and the kids would hang out in the park while he played through. We actually have a state park a few miles away from us. Raven Rock State Park has several hiking trails along the Cape Fear River. There is a learning center that details the history of our county and how the river influenced the development of the area. There is also information concerning the Native Americans who used the river for fish trapping and as a general source of survival. It is all very interesting. They offer primitive camping spots and areas to picnic and grill in. It is a great place to visit.

We have some fall historical reenactments here that are interesting. I just read that the county lake ten miles from us has also set up a frisbee golf course.

It is fun to watch and see how people play and who likes to visit the most. There is one man who is there almost every day.

If you are not annoyed by the noise, it is funny to watch.

They are across the road and often at the far side of the lot as they make their way around. Even when there have been a lot of them the noise is not bad at all.

@GardenGerty This is fine, our municipality wanted to built a skateboard ring not far from our house, but all the neighbors were opposed and they did nothing. What a relief! Screaming teenagers all the day would have been a nightmare.

That sounds like a lot of fun and much easier than golf.

I have never tried golf. The people that are here almost every day do not even seem able to hit the "hole" but they laugh and have such a good time.

There are a couple of different people that walk their dogs out here and I always enjoys seeing them, one is a pit bull very freindly and the other is an older labrador also very friendly. My dogs enjoy seeing them from inside the fence line and would like to play with them. They do have a couple of dogs that they play with every so often one is a small dog and the other one is a French bull dogs male who likes my small female dog.

That sounds really great GG! It would be entertaining for sure. Other people might complain about all the activity so close to you. I guess at times, though the apts can be crazy with fights and kids all around, it is sometimes entertaining here

We live close to a golf course and a public library, with a children's playground in the compound. So it gets pretty lively in this area especially on weekends.

There are other things they use the area for as well. For the Labor Day Parade they staged the line up there. We had a front row seat.

Not yet, I guess I need to. Gotta buy a new frisbee. I have seen people in another place who bought special kinds of discs for the game.
