bats. I remember when I was young and they would start flying over my grandparent's house. It was said that they would get into girl's hair and make a horrible mess. I was scared of them. My grandmother caught one and put it in a jar. My cousin took it to school. Ugh! Then when I moved to another town and was going to a church there.....I went to an evening youth class and we would take a break half way through. We all would go outside for a few minutes. Then was about the time that a group of bats would leave the awning of a building across the street and fly over to the church across the street. Remember that weird flapping noise in the vampire movies when a vamp disguised as a bat would fly into the scene? You could here that and I would just freak out every time. I have always had long hair and can just imagine what one of those ugly, blind things could do if it got caught in my hair.

They are never going to bump into you so do not give a second thought to this myth. I love to see them coming out and flittering around the house in the evenings. They are quite ugly and that pictures shows quite an array of teeth but they are not interesting in biting us, forget the vampire stories and enjoy them for what they are.

But what if one of them is a vampire? LOL Bump into me? That isn't what freaks me out. I have very long hair and am afraid one might get in it. I do enjoy them at a distance.

I once got a bat in my hair for real when I as night fishing with my Father in my youth.
It did frighten the life out of me.
I dont mind seeing them in the dusk flying high, but I would not want to be around one.

Although I get a little creeped out by bats, too, they are very helpful creatures who have a huge appetite for mosquitoes. They also are having a hard time right now and are threatened. So I don't relish seeing them, but I don't freak out. I included a bat in one of my children's stories Fiona the Theater Mouse.

As long as they are in a picture they are okay. I have seen too many out in the wild and they give me the heebeegeebees.

I really don't think I would want a bunch of bats flying around me and getting in my hair. I think they are sort of ugly creatures and I don't want them around me. I think they are great only as a symbol for Halloween but other than that forget it.

I've heard that they carry disease too. They fly up high but I don't want them around anyway.
