We Saw American Pharoah Win Yesterday

My husband and I watched American Pharoah win the Breeders Cup yesterday If you don't know who American Pharoah is, he's the horse that won the triple crown of horse racing this year.
The triple crown is a series of three famous races and he won all three. The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont stakes. The triple crown hadn't been won for over 30 years and only won 12 times in the history of Horse Racing.
Earlier this summer on his only weekend off all summer my husband and I went to the Travers Stake in Saratoga. I grew up there so we shared time with family and the race track. We wanted to see this famous horse run. So did 50,000 other people who were there at Saratoga that day for that race.
But while looking at the horses before the race I fell in love with another horse, a horse with long legs and put my bet on him. My horse 's name was Keen Ice. Keen Ice won and 50,000 people were disappointed to see American Pharoah lose. Everyone but me...
Keen Ice was at the Breeders Cup yesterday but American Pharoah won. It was exciting to see just how good that horse is on the track. I'm glad he won because he is now retired and will spend the rest of his life on a beautiful green space and probably have a few children with hopes of winning the triple crown down the road.
Sadly we had to watch the race on television but it was still an exciting race to watch.
Did you see it?
The photo is one I took at Saratoga. It's a shot of them getting ready to race. Horse #2 with Victor Espinoza in the turquoise shirt and helmet is American Pharoah. The winner of that race, Keen Ice is the green and yellow number 7.

I'm so glad he was able to get some great wins in his life and now he's retired. That's a good thing.

Since i grew up near Saratoga the races were always on the news. and it was close enough to just go to the races. When we lived in Kansas for all those 20-30 years we never saw a race or even heard of one. They just are not there. I understand, Thanks for stopping by.

@PainsOnSlate I wouldn't have a clue on how to bet but I would probably do a lot of yelling too.

Its an exciting sport to watch. Everyone wants their bet to pay off
so there is a lot of yelling encouragement to the horses.

i had horses when I was younger. I've always loved the races but never raced one of mine. They are awesome animals.

Gambling is there but most of us go for the racing. We bet on the horses but not more than $2 bets, We usually come home with more money that we arrived with but even if we lose its not a big loss.

@PainsOnSlate Hopefully he'll get to enjoy more than being a horse in a pasture, if you know what I mean.

Me too, he certainly worked hard and made a ton of money, its time for him to just enjoy being a horse in the pasture.

I did not see the race but I was very happy to know that American Pharaoh did win. That will solidify his name in the books!

When i saw the jockey talking to the news and he was asked why about Saratoga (where he lost) I could tell by his eyes he thinks he caused the fail by holding the horse back too long. He certainly didn't hold that horse yesterday. Fabulous win. It makes me happy that you were watching while i was watching..

@PainsOnSlate Yes, it was evening here, but we have a dedicated racing channel on our TV so we were able to watch it live. Great stuff.

We love it and go when we can. The tracks around where we live are now casinos. They still race but its not the same as the big races.
