I wanted to be an...astronaut.. What did you want to be?

When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut. That's what I said when I was three... Then, I grow up, and I wasn't exactly astronaut material because: 1) I'm blind as a bat. 20/20 vision is required 2) I'd have to pee into a funnel during all space missions.. Ok! The vision thing could've been sorted with lenses. But the peeing into a funnel thing..NEVER! Right.. so I end up getting a job as a sales assistant.. It's hardly the most awe inspiring career, but then I do get my own cubicle.. .. So what did you want to be?

yeah that would put people off having to pee in a funnel. I never really knew what I wanted to do then I was younger or even when I left school. It's only now I'm loving photography and interested in graphic design and website building.

@Drosophila Yeah, thinking back now I remember wanting to be a designer when I was about 10 or 12, especially with my knitting but that never happened, I did one fashion show with my work some years later so I don't know what happened really, why I didn't follow that path. Instead I worked in a factory.

@kevin1877uk You definitely has some good designs, keep the idea churning! Chinese proverb "The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The second best time is now!"

I wanted to be a actress. Then later a detective. I am always so curious I would love to have been a detective. Not with a police department but on my own. I think it sounded fun.

That's awesome! Acting is definitely a demanding career! I remember having to do school plays and end up being the person with 0 lines. xD

Writing can be a hobby that continues, didn't J.K Rowling hit off in 5 years with Harry Potter?

First I wanted to be a Psychiatrist, then a lawyer, and a policeman. I actually tried out for the latter but at the time they had height restrictions - I was an inch too short. Those things didn't happen but I am happy with what I turned out to be.

Astronaut was high on my list - I grew up during the heyday of the space race so it was a high profile job back then. I also wanted to be an undersea explorer. "Anywhere but here" seems to be a theme in my young dreams.

In the UK, we have something called TA, it's made up of people who couldn't be full time soldiers. They make up a nice portion of the army. Maybe there's something in your country like this?

@Drosophila It really does. I have a tiny little lot where i live now, but growing even a small portion of my own food brings me great joy and makes me feel useful. My goal is to buy a place with a decent amount of land and grow and raise as much of my own food as possible. Not simply for economic reasons, but for pride and self satisfaction as well.
