Mylot poll time! Lunches for work?

I don't know about you, but I think we all get tired of taking sandwiches to work. But what are your other options? What do you make to take to eat at work. My time to cook is limited, as is my budget. I also have the challenge of trying to avoid breads and pasta and carb loaded foods, which makes this whole portable food thing so much harder. But I need some more ideas of what to make to bring! Some days I take salads, tomorrow will be leftover chicken and squash. So…what do you take? What do you make? Anything tasty I might want to try?

If you want to avoid bread and pasta, make a mixed salad, you can add canned tuna, chicken leftovers, cold meats. Bring with you the seasoning in a small bottle so you can add the seasoning to the salad only when you are ready to eat, it tastes better.

@Jessicalynnt That's good, you can add tomatoes and black olives if you like.

you mean like a salad on lettuce or romaine? I do that now and then, I actually bring the greens, cheese, and meat all separate and assemble on site, you are right it is totally better!

Sandwiches, every day. I never get tired of a good ham sandwich. I did get a new mustard to try this week so that will change things up a bit.

@Jessicalynnt Why not just eat wheat bread or something healthy? I've heard cutting out carbs completely isn't good for you. Personally I've never gone on a no-carb diet. When I diet I just try to cut out junk food and eat more fruits and vegetables, which are all carbs too by the way. I couldn't give up bread and pasta though, they're my 2 favorite foods!

@katsmeow1213 You can do none, for a couple of days, but you are right. that is not healthy to do all of the time. What I have to do is simply much lower than average. I aim for 50-100 carbs per day. I could have 2 slices of bread, I'd just have to really watch what I had the rest of the day to not go over. So often I do sub out things lower in carbs, so I can spread out what I can have over more things.

I make fried rice, noodles, pitta bread rolls and stuff like that. The veggies, and meat become a major part of the meal.

@birjudanak here I cant walk outside to get to food, I'd have to drive, at least ten minutes to get to anywhere that sold food. We aren't in a downtown area but a spot where residential meets commercial, and there really isnt a store in quite a ways

@Jessicalynnt,Generally I skip my lunch.I don't feel hungry at noon.If some day I feel like eating something,I prefer to take some fruits, preferably banana or papaya or an apple, and a glass of sweet, hot milk.

I wish I could do that. I am at work at 6 am, and end up drinking tea with milk and eating a low carb energy bar for breakfast (or some nuts and cheese), but by 11-12 I am super hungry and have to continue working until 5, I would never make it if I didn't eat. I get low blood sugar, feel horrible and get super grumpy

When I worked, I would just take leftovers from the night before. I wasn't that creative or imaginative when it came to food

I will be not much of help because in our country rice is a staple food so we try to eat anything with rice. But right now, I am trying to avoid rice, bread and pasta also for me to lose some weight also. Can potato be a substitute for them? I usually boil them. Also scrambled with a little butter on it.

sadly potato's are as bad as rice. I could prob do a little rice, but I have to keep that part of my diet so low! I can eat almost more veggies and means, try to eat lots of squashes and such

When I was working I'd take leftovers from my dinner. It was cheaper in the long run than buying lunch and it was healthier and less boring than a sandwich every day. Bringing lunch can be difficult if you don't have a place to heat it up if need be

@paigea that would be Taco soup, which is honestly more like taco stew. ground meat, beans, corn, olives, tomato, chillies, 1 packet of each: taco seasoning, Italian dressing mix, ranch dressing mix. and simmer for awhile in a big pot

Since I don't go home to cook in the lunch, so I have to bring my own lunch to work since I don't like having a lunch outside. I will take some food from the dinner and then I will bring them to the office and heat it with a microwave-oven. So usually my lunch is the rice, meats and vegetables. I seldom bring fish to lunch because there are many bones.

I pretty much went out or ordered in as often as I could afford it. Other days, I drove home and ate there. When the kids were small, I drove to my mother's house to visit for lunch. Sometimes I would just eat junk food. I really like junk food.

sadly too far to come home, I'd end up driving 20, be home like 15 and have to turn around and drive back, not to mention gas for my F150. (we had to have a second vehicle and needed 1 to haul, I ended up with it because i drive less atm, miss my little kia lol)

I usually don't take a lunch because my shifts aren't long enough to justify it. When they are I bring left overs or whatever catches my eye. Typically I take a piece of fruit or a granola bar to snack on.

Actually, I neither have the time nor the patience to cook my own food since I cannot really cook. What I usually do is alternate sandwiches or nuts as my lunch. My schedule is so hectic that I always have working lunch and no luxury lunches.
