Fog Rolling Inland From The Lake

Canada
November 6, 2015 7:00am CST
The other morning I was reading the paper when the sun rose and showed my whole neighborhood was shrouded in fog, not that dense fog that indicates the a change in the temperatures but a light thin fog that made every thing mysterious and beautiful. When it was light enough I went in the back yard and took the photo above. The leaves are falling daily so now we can see into the ravine and see the trees and the depth of the ravine. Soon we will be seeing the houses on the other side of the ravine for the winter. I'd rather see the trees but the other side is far enough away I'm not bothered by people behind me. Its fun watching the people hiking the trail at the bottom of the ravine in winter. Some kids even ski down there. That day the fog made it look surreal. I had an eye appointment with a specialist in the city nearby later that day. When we got on the highway it was amazing to see the fog that was rolling off of Lake Ontario and covering everything on the south side of the lake. That temperature change was happening on the lake. It was quite warm outside so the lake must be colder than the air. The fog was still light, airy and beautiful. I live very close to the Great Lake but I can't see it from my house. On the way home from my appointment the fog was still rolling in. My eyes were dilated from my appointment but it was still beautiful. I like fog as long as it isn't thick and makes driving impossible. How about You?

We had a very heavy fog yesterday morning and you couldn't even see a foot in front of you. Like you, I don't mind a light fog but don't really care for the heavy fog.

@PainsOnSlate My eyes aren't that good anymore either. I feel comfortable with the way I drive in the fog but not so much with everyone else around me.

@simone10 You just gave me an idea for another post. I'm sure I wrote about it on that other site but it is a good story - thanks!

When I was learning to drive there was a lot of fog where I grew up and it scared me. I managed to learn how to drive in that weather but now I'm old, my eyes aren't as good as they were back then and I won't drive in heavy fog.

I love fog because it reminds me my native city. If I do not need to go out I love thick fog.

Thick fog is spooky and wonderful. I love taking Photos in it but will not drive in it.

I love the movement of the fog and the way the light looks around it. I really do love the fog as long as I don't have to drive in it.

I am not a fan of the fog because the greyness of it makes it harder for me to see. Fog out in the distance, like over a body of water, can be quite beautiful though.

That ay the whole lake was shrouded in fog but the fog traveling with the wind was light and airy. I liked it but I don't like the thick kind.

I tend to think of fog as a real inconvenience when driving, but a mist such as in your picture can be ethereal.

This was a beautiful morning. Actually all day long the fog was there. It was lovely and certainly not heavy fog. I thought it was very pretty.

I only see fog when our weather as its coldest and that normally happen only in late January to early February. But they appear only during early morn and not very thick to distract driving.

Our regular fog is just like yours too, there for only a short time in the morning. This fog came off the lake, you couldn't see the lake through the fog, it was like the lake was on fire. What it was, was cold water and a very hot day for November and it was beautiful.

Grew up in Miami, Florida. Fog didn't happen often and when it did, I was glad it was a quick passing. Not a fog person.

@PainsOnSlate - I see from your profile that you were born in the USA but live in Canada. Made a few friends that are also Canadian transplants. From what I hear, that country has a very good quality of life. Also from what I hear, it can get ridiculously cold, which means I would never survive there. Will have to settle for looking at pictures and chatting with friends like you.

@cmoneyspinner And I will be glad to chat with you when ever I get the chance. This country is awesome and we will always be proud of our US citizenship but we will spend the rest of our lives in Canada, a gentler, kinder world. When we were younger we loved winter but now in our old age we head south like thousands of other Canadians.

I love the beaches there and while visiting I've never seen fog. Glad it doesn't show up when I'm there and also glad it goes away quick for you who live there.

Your photo is lovely. Fog creates such atmosphere. I love the leaves on the trees, but the shapes of the empty branches are beautiful, too.

The ravine is in the back of the house, It was what sold the house to us. The forest in the back is so much better than another house to look at.

That sounds magical, a dream land. I also like a foggy day, especially sitting in front of a huge window, gazing out, with a good book stealing my attention now and again. :-)

I love to look at it and this day it was thin and interesting. Hubby drove me to the doctor so I didn't have to drive in it but it was and easy drive.

Fog or mist rolling in off the sea is magnificent. I love watching the river behind us early on summer mornings when a blanket of fog sits on it then gets burned off by the rising sun.

I'm fascinated by it too but this fog lasted all day because the Great Lake in the neighborhood was sharing its fog all day - but it was light and airy.
