If there is something I hate, it is buying grocery on Saturday, the shops are full of people, it's a real waste of time. I went grocery shopping yesterday, but I forgot to buy the eggs. Today is sunny and warm, so I decided to take a walk to the supermarket to buy my eggs. The waiting in line, was not as bad as I expected, so I decided to stop at their restaurant to have a full Swiss breakfast. What you see in the picture is our classic breakfast buffet. Cheese, ham, bread and croissant, an apple pie, a cup of cappuccino and a glass of fruit juice. It has not been so bad to have forgotten the eggs after all. Do you like to go shopping on Saturday?

Gosh that is a large breakfast I hope you enjoyed it. I hate going shopping any time of the week let alone on a Saturday. What really annoys me more than anything is pensioners going out shopping on Saturday and blocking the aisles moaning about baked beans going up a penny and getting in the way. They have all week to go out shopping when I guess it is quieter but oh no they shop on a Saturday when the rest of the world do their shop! GRRRRR

That would be me Gary. If baked beans have gone up a penny today then I will blame you.

@garymarsh6 We old biddies might not have work to go to during the week Gary but we still do have a life and are often busy living it. Some old folk live very lonely lives and maybe standing in a busy line moaning and groaning to strangers is the highlight of their week. Others maybe get fun out of seeing how much their presence in the checkout line frustrates you young guys lol...

I cannot remember when it was the last time I went shopping on Saturday, years ago for sure.

Nobody would ever claim to LIKE shopping on a Saturday, except maybe a woman wandering around the shoe stores for 5 or 6 hours. I will be going into the city centre today, but will not be there for very long. It does help if the local football teams are playing because it reduces the crowds a great deal. I hope that took care not to stand on the salamander on your way out.

@LadyDuck That does not sound like any of the women that I have ever met. It surprises me that shoe shops do not have a small cafeteria so that the women do not have to stop shopping while they eat.

@Asylum I know that most of the women spend hours in the shoe shops. My niece is a real pain. The last time we went shopping together I came back home leaving her behind. I had enough to see her trying shoes.

Poor salamander, I searched for it, but I cannot see where it is now. I am the fasted shoe buyers, if I see a pair of shoes I like, I ask if they have my size, I try them, I pay and I go.

@arthurchappell A lot of the Spanish think that all we Brits love queuing. Some think that even if there was nothing to queue for we would still form one lol...

That's a pretty hardy breakfast. I'll have a croissant please! What does a meal like that cost there?

This morning breakfast costs 6 Swiss Francs, that is about the same price in dollars. It is a special price for the breakfast buffet. I brought back home the cheese and ham, it was too much for me.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, considering that here in Switzerland everything is very expensive, in some places you pay 3 dollars just for a cup of coffee.

BTW, I always like to go shopping even on Saturdays. It's when I get to meet & talk even a bit with some friends & relatives. Plus, my dearly beloved treats me to a movie thereafter! I love it!

That looks to be a lovely healthy breakfast Anna. I hope you enjoyed it. I hate going food shopping, my husband always did that for us. I just rush into the shops get what I need and rush out again. I have a feeling your supermarkets might be more interesting that our Aussie ones

@LadyDuck When I was in London we had a small grocery shop owned by an Indian family, They were so lovely, even helped us with food for our wedding feast. I'm sorry the smaller family groceries have been swept away by the large supermarkets that are not so personal or friendly as the grocer down the road.

The supermarkets are the same all over the world, we still have smaller shops that are more interesting, but also more expensive.

Of course if you work you have to go shopping when you can. You are lucky because in the United States grocery stores stay open many more hours than in Europe.

@LadyDuck It is much easier that way. My day is normally Friday. Friday is the only day I have to take Lil Keith to the bus stop in the mornings and I get him on the bus and head straight to the store. Surprisingly it is still somewhat busy on the Friday mornings but not as bad as the weekends.

@garymarsh6 It is coming up to siesta time and so I need to go shopping. Our supermarket is about five minutes walk (that's at my speed probably two minutes at yours) but I will be calling in at our local bar/cafe on the way to meet up with a friend for a drink and a tapas in the sunshine. So when you are hard at work just spare a thought for us old folks who have such a hard life lol....

@LadyDuck (9930), I don't think I mind shopping any time, unless I am runnning short on time, but I am always shopping. I buy my groceries usually daily. I do once a month or week and get the essentials.. But I like messing around with different recipes, and I have to go get the ingredients, and also, I like fresh veggies daily, so that means daily visits to the grocery store. Your breakfast sounds great.

I buy my grocery twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday, those are the days the shops receive fresh veggies and products. The other days I know that they do not have fresh deliveries, so it's a waste of time to go out every day.

It seems that Swiss breakfast is like a brunch for me. I must be so full after that. As to buying grocery, I don't have a specific time to do so. Sometimes I will just go to the supermarket to buy what I want after work. There is a big supermarket which is quite close to my home. So I don't have to buy a lot of stuff each time. Besides, today sometimes I even go shopping and buy the grocery online. When it is up to a certain amount, the delivery fee will be free of charge. So I even don't have to go to the supermarket in person. I can get whatever I want online and wait for the delivery at home.

@LadyDuck In fact here Saturday and Sunday may sell well because many people don't have to work. Therefore the supermarkets and department stores will not close.
