@rebelann I had never heard of the native Americans being involved, but I did know that it represented the first harvest by the Pilgrim Fathers, which should date it somewhere around the first half of the 17th century.
I also heard somewhere that it was declared an official holiday during the Civil War, which is easier to date because the war was from 1861 to 1865.

I think a turkey. I suggested a ham and a hen. My husband is waiting to see if his job gives him a turkey for Thanksgiving. Last year they gave us over a 20 lbs turkey for Christmas. Cranberry sauce is a must for sure!

@rebelann Yes indeed! I love homemade cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole and anything else you can throw on the side. Love to top it all with cranberry sauce.

@LCaldwell a small turkey because its tradition and a ham because its my favorite the kids like it but they aren't accustomed to eating ham on a regular basis. My wife used to mostly eat turkey chicken and fish. pork and red meat was hardly ever cooked

@Jessicalynnt I have heard that about a lot of things. I might try one someday. My step dad always liked them. Him and my mom. I never did like the smell though.

@GardenGerty I come up with some crazy stuff to be thankful. A few days ago I was thankful for my sister playing 8 ball pool with me on the phone.

I have tried to post on Facebook each day what I have to be thankful for. I might start doing it here also as discussions.

@rahulvsmokiee That sounds good. We have no indian restaurants here. I will look up a recipe for it and cook it one evening. Thank you!

A must at my Thanksgiving table is cornbread dressing, turkey, green beans, mashed or sweet potatoes and several desserts! I am ready!
