Peace and Tranquility in a Japanese Garden

Attached to the Irish National Stud in Co. Kildare, Ireland is the Japanese Garden. The garden was created between 1906 and 1910 by Tassa Eida. The garden depicts the story of life told through rocks, trees and water. As you wind your way through the garden you come across such attractions as the Cave of Birth, Path of Adventure, Island of Joy and Wonder, Engagement Bridge, Honeymoon Path, Hill of Ambition, Well of Wisdom, Bridge of Life, Chair of Old Age and Hill of Mourning. It is a peaceful and beautiful oasis of calm. You are led along a path which twists and turns but really only a short distance. It is cleverly designed so parts are hidden until you take another turn in the road.

Most Japanese Gardens around the world look alike, but they are all beautiful. We had a small Japanese Garden in Monte-Carlo, I loved to go there to read a book, it was a peaceful place.

@JudyEv Thank you Judy, the Japanese carps are big fish, they fought with the ducks for the food, they were funny to watch.

There was always something different around the next corner. They had quite a few places where you could sit and enjoy the peace. Lovely place.

I forgot to mention what a lovely photo you added. And aren't the fish huge?

As a rule, I do not enjoy Japanese Gardens. They are beautiful, of course, but not my aesthetic.

@JudyEv Oksy, correction. I love koi ponds, even built a huge one in my yard once. Loved it.

@ElizabethWallace Our friends have koi but fish have never really 'floated my boat' as they say (an apt description don't you think?)

I always like water in a garden - little babbling brooks or ponds.

I could feel my pulse slowing down and the stress floating away as I walked around.

Perhaps I'll do a post on how I do it. I know everyone's computer is a big different but it might help.

Absolutely gorgeous! I hope some day to visit Japan and see a real Japanese garden.

@JudyEv The pictures in the video seem to be very similar to the ones in Japan.

It would be nice to see if they are like the 'made up' ones in Western countries.

Very lush and beautiful. I see a lot of "No" signs. But tell me, did you go into the dark tunnel?

The tunnel isn't very long but it isn't very high either. I hadn't noticed all the 'no' signs to be honest.

I am very much interested in Japanese Gardens and have taken tips while designing landscaped gardens when I had my own company. I particularly like their dry gardens. There was a lake kind of effect using tiny grey coloured pebbles which looked like a lake from afar. Your video is interesting.

The Japanese certainly have some very clever ways of creating the effect they want, don't they?

It was amazing the variety that had been placed in such a small area.

I love the tranquility of Japanese Gardens, they are so deceptively simple, and great places to be still in the moment!

Some of the topiary shapes are really lovely too. I think they're 'deceptively simple' too!

I'd probably enjoy it there. Can you wander off the path?

Not easily. There are expanses of lawn in other areas but the idea in the Japanese garden is to follow the path.
