Why me?

My friend keeps complaining "why me?" all the time. I guess many of us do it too. I always tell her why not ask why me when you have all the good things in life. When life brings good things to our doorstep we accept them with open arms and bright smiles. However, when the tide changes we complain and cry as if life owed us something. The good and the bad are part of life. Happiness and sadness are just two different sides of the same coins. Learning to take them in our stride makes life easier for us. Complaining and whining over bad times only magnifies our problems and makes things seem more difficult than they are. What is your take on complaining and whining?

The answer to "Why me?" is obvious; Why not!

I know for me, I do complain when my life is getting hard. It depends on the person I am complaining to and how often I can complain. I think it is normal for people to whine about their jobs, life, kids etc.. It makes me feel so much better after I vent.

@Castlerock34 - To make complaints on any issue/matter is the easiest thing in life. I agree that sometimes when we are too tensed, we cannot prevent ourselves from venting out.

@Castlerock34 It does depend on how much and how often .. but the fact that we complain should not make it difficult for us to accept the situation and work towards getting things right. Complaining makes us bitter towards life if we dwell on it.

You are very right that when people are faced with some odd situations, they would always say that 'why me'. They would even start cursing the Great God that why they are so unfortunate. They forget that when they get bounties and goodies they do not say - why me. They do not even bother to thank the Great God for His niceties. People should count their blessings, instead of complaining in life. Life is mix of joys and sorrows and happiness and sadness are two sides of the same coin and are complimentary to each other. Without sorrows, we just cannot realize what is happiness. I always count my blessings and remain thankful to the Great God for his kindness. Very good post.

@sofssu - Those who feel grateful for blessings of God would always be happy in their life and if you happen to talk to them, they would always talk in a positive manner towards life.

@dpk262006 Being grateful is one of the best things in life. It always keeps us seeing the positive side of life. You are right about how people forget to thank God for all his goodness and dwell only on the troubles that come their way. That would be a very biased approach to life.

Honestly , even when i have problems i never say why me ? I know that God is testing me and i just have to call for His help if all means were already exhausted and it's still a problem.

@SIMPLYD God does not test us.. he allows us to be tested. Yes he is near to us and is ready to help us in our times of need.. Its a good understanding to have and it keeps us living in hope and faith.

I admit there are times where it feels like everything goes wrong, just when I think I've finally managed to pull us out of the debt hole, something else breaks and back in we fall.

Ah yes, very good discussion. I have to agree with you. I learned from a pretty early age, their really is no use in whining and complaining, cause no one really cares. So I stop and try to think, 'things could be worse', or 'someone out there has it worst then me'. It tends to work most of the time. Although, I will admit, I have my moments, where, I need to vent. Once I do, I am good to go and life continues on.

@sofssu Whines that you are picking on little ole me. I know exactly what you mean. I am not much one for listening to people whine, it tends to grate o my nerves, and I only have 1 nerve left. You absolutely right no ones life is completely peachy, everyone has troubles some more serious than others, but still no one is immune to troubles at some time.

@TexanTornado It is human nature to want to give vent to something, but to go on complaining to any one you see is a habit that makes you and people around you miserable. Even those who deeply care would find it irksome to listen to you . (Here I am using the word You in a collective sense.) The fact is that each person has his or her own troubles to live with each day. .

@valmnz Hmm.. That is for sure they act like life/world really owes them something. Most often they suffer because of the wrong choices they make.. yes there are people who have terrible misfortunes laid on them.. but those are not the ones who complain.

@LadyDuck Once in a while if we out of anguish say something, people around us are willing to understand and empathize with us. Its the habitual complainers who put you off and sometimes even try to give you guilt about living a happy life.

Whenever I start thinking, "Why me?", I then have to tell myself, why not me? The truth is, bad things happen to all of us and it's how we react to it that makes us different from others.

@simone10 Bad things happen to everyone.. so why not me? Its true life is not a bed of roses but how we react to it makes the difference. If life was good all the time it would be boring indeed.. We would have nothing good to look forward to.

I tend to think "why me" when I am hit with a string of bad things, like when we had car problem after car problem leading us to only having one car instead of two, but I tried not to complain to much to others about it. I know that there are plenty of people worse off than me, but it doesn't make the difficult times any easier.

@fawkes62 Looking at some of the unfortunate ones often changes the way we think and speak. I guess we need to count our blessings...they make us strong to face the troubles of today.

@iamshane487 The trouble is we ask life why me, instead of asking why not me? When we look at some people going through such difficult times do we ask why them? why not me? I am glad you ask yourself that question when you face troubles.

Unless a complaint will change matters, sometimes it can open somebody's eyes, otherwise its just a release. I don't like to spend much time or effort on complaining or on nagging, just 2 qualities that I dislike as they seem to attract negativity.

You are absolutely right, my friend! Been sick for more than a decade (more than 15 years, to be exact), but I never whined. Asking why me when I was diagnosed with cancer? No, Ma'am. I asked myself, what now? It helped me think & decide what will be good for me, thanks God!

@KnehKnah You are a wise woman. Its an admirable quality to be able to rise above our problems and see what needs to be done. Self pity never allows us to look beyond the moment. Life is about going forward not being stuck and wallowing in self pity and misery. I wish you well and hope you always see the sunny side of life.
