Some months ago I was diagnosed as having resistance to insuline.
I asked the doctor what pill did I have to take and he told me to walk and to eat less carbs. He also wanted me to sign up at a gym, but I was about to go to Aruba.
Thinking that at the resort there would be those training machines, I didn´t care much to do anything before I went away.
And at the resort in Aruba I discovered that all machines were too heavy for me. The answer was to walk. So I did some walk there (not much) and cooked some nice things to have when we returned from the beach.
I came back with 4 more pounds and when I lost a couple of them I went to San Fernando to visit my aunt. More exquisite meals and more pounds to lose!
Last night, after overhearing about insulin resistance, I went to read about it online. I am now scared to death! There is nothing to joke about and it cannot be put off. I´m on a road to diabetes.
Today I will begin with small walks and a diabetic diet.
If I could stop smoking, I can do this too.
Have you had this sort of problems?

Dont worry or fret too much Marguicha, though I can understand. The more you read online, the more frightening it becomes. Tho it is good to be aware.
Just take care of yourself.

At least today I took a walk and I did not eat the rice. I only had pork (could not leave it though) with veggies.

@marguicha I know it's not easy but that would be your best bet to avoid injections later on. I wish my brother would do better as I am always worried about him.

We can do it! I will go out for a walk to the super in half an hour, as soon as I get dressed properly.

wow there are a lot of us here. if I had known what I know now not to get middle aged sp read right in the middle of your body I co uld have avo ided diabetes, extra fat cells imped the insulin from pushing the sugar into our muscle cells where it is needed and lets it stay in our blood stream where it is su re not needed. I ha ve had the best time lately as I lost 25 pounds just by walking 45 minuteness about four times a week and cutting down a bit on evening snacks.

I understand that you are scared. I don't have diabetes, but I have always been worried about it because it runs in my family. My father has it and I have had other family members with diabetes. My father was diagnosed when he was about 30 and he is 69 today.

My mother had diabetes among other things. And I don´t need more ailments: I have enough with the lymphoma and side effects of that and of medicines to stop cancer.

Scheng1 is right. We all know someone who is diabetic. My dad, father-in-law, husband, and great grandmother, were/are diabetics. Most of them controlled it with pills. My father-in-law got so bad he had to take insulin shots.
Do what the doctor tells you. Follow the diet, exercise, and drink water. If you have to take medicine then take it and you will be fine. Diabetes is one of those maintenance, chronic diseases. You can live just fine with it.
You can still travel with little problem. You might have to keep the shot refrigerated though so that could cause problems with traveling.
Take care of yourself and hopefully it won't develop into something worse.

I had a grandmother with diabetes. I haven't had any real trouble although I know I don't always eat right. Fortunately I don't have any tendency to put on weight. I still weigh the same as I did in college.
I hope the steps you are taking will help you avoid this disease.

I put on weight once when I quit smoking. I´m sure it wasn´t a problem of different metabolism. I just ate huge amounts of candy for over a month. Then, the rest of my overweight was when I was in chemo. I did not have much energy so I spent my time at the computer.

Today I ate all but the rice at lunch. Still it was a filling meal. I guess we eat too many unneeded carbs.

Many people here have kidney problem, and they have to go to the dialysis center every other day.
It is now part of life, and nearly everyone knows someone who has diabetic problem.
I think there is nothing to worry about.
Life still goes on.
The only problem is that you are not able to take long haul trip to other places.

I like to have my life in my hands, friend. I can accept my ailments, but I have to manage to put them in their place. I did that with a lymphoma Stage 4 and I am still alive.
I will not worry, but I will do something about it as far as I can.
