Mending socks: an old costum revived.

Today, while straightening some garments in my chest of drawers, I discovered that all (and I mean all) my alpaca socks had holes
.
I use them while in bed in Winter because they are soft and are pure alpaca wool.
There were two posibilities: either I threw them away (and where would I find alpaca socks as they only sell them near the peruvian border) or I mended them.
Leticia is full of resources and had put away a couple of years ago some threads of alpaca wool that my mother had bought to knit. She also got from her wizard´s hat a big needle and now I have two pairs of wonderful mended socks.
Do you keep and mend some specially good garments? Or you just throw them away and pray you find something as good?

@marguicha Oh right, I wasn't sure who did the actual mending.

My eldest daughter was allergic to wool at a time where many garmets were at least partly wool.

@marguicha
anytime I came into contact with wool I would break out in hives and scratch, scratch, scratch until my skin was bare. I am still allergic to wool.

I will mend them. Now days most just through them out and buy new. My bed socks are old men socks. Love 'em.

There are things I can turn into rags without much trouble. But there are others I use for ages.

@marguicha I can certainly understand. My feet do get cold but once I am in bed and under the blankets, my feet get hot if I wear socks.

I mend things. I never throw anything out unless I have to. Alpaca socks sound wonderfully warm. I have a pair of heavy wool socks on and a flannel night gown on. I just put a heavy blanket over me while I sit here and type away.

My wife is quite a seamstress and mends things well. I have no Alpaca socks though.

I used to mend a lot when the children were little. Now I live alone and don´t need to. Alpaca socks can only be bought in places near the Andes Mountains.
