Reading about one of our MyLotters who renovates old cast off speakers reminded me of the above saying which is familiar to people in the UK. It does give a feeling of accomplishment both environmentally as well as achieving something with the minimal cost although often the maximum effort. But that is fine if we enjoy doing it, pleasure comes in many different ways. I make jewelry from time to time out of things that have cost me nothing. The photo is of a necklace I made out of stone I found on the beach and a flower in the garden. I've made nicer things with bought beads but this one is special to me because I know there is not another like this anywhere else!

That is a really lovely necklace. I am always pleased when we need to do small jobs around the place and we're able to find bits and pieces instead of having to go out and buy new 'stuff'. Of course, it means we have to keep small pieces of hose, timber, piping, aluminium tubing, etc but it's amazing how much of it gets used eventually. We're lucky to have the room to keep it all too.

I keep quite a few odds and ends, I've lots of buttons 'just in case' and I suspect that if I gave them some thought I might think of other uses than replacing lost ones.

@41CombedaleRoad There might be some good ideas on Pinterest. I never go there but lots of people talk about it.

Nice! How did you preserve and attach the flower? Unique is good!

I pressed the flower, I varnished the stone and I used some glue! A really simple job.

There are more ways to recycle than to put things in a re-cycling bin, we could probably really surprise ourselves if we determined not to throw things away without much thought.

@41CombedaleRoad it is incredible what people will throw away - we are so wasteful

@41CombedaleRoad I save all kinds of items from broken things and household items, material scraps that one normally throws away. I decorate pic frames will them, make baby shower gifts. Like you, I find it most rewarding to create that unique piece.

It is very pretty, I also like to create unique objects with material I find during my walks in the woods.

A beautiful thing made with so naturally abundant materials, all it took was some effort. I love this necklace. Nice work!

I like the designer special description! I had not thought of it that way, but I suppose anything we create is designer special isn't it?

@41CombedaleRoad yes, but to make an original like you did without the typical craft patterns..that is truly a designer special, not only because it is unique but because you created it (designed). You are the designer. ^_~

Everyone is creative, they just have not realised it yet, so I expect if you think about what you do when you have time to yourself then you might get a clue about your own creativity.

It was a wild flower, I have no idea what it is called. The colour in the photo is a little brighter than my actual necklace.

This is so pretty.. How do you drill such small holes in a stone?
