Can We Publish Our myLot Earnings Report?

Making Money on myLot
Vancouver, British Columbia
November 14, 2015 10:03am CST
I know one of the greatest treasures about posting on an active paid social media site like Bubblews was that many of us came initially to make money but stayed for the community. Over time, it was really special to have such an awesome, vibrant support network of fellow online writers who were willing to just listen, play around, offer advice, help one another and make writing online a little less lonely during the day. Talking about money can turn some people the wrong way. And it's true, an earnings-centric approach can kill a site once it starts attracting scammers and those trying to game the system. However, given this is a new and improved myLot, I think this is the very thing most new users are curious about. Is it worth their while to jump in? Can they make any real money on myLot? From what I gather so far, myLot makes more than the interest I'm getting on my checking account so that's worth something. @GoAskAlice and any other veteran myLot folks, what's your stance on this issue? And what do you think? Yay or nay? UPDATE TO POST GLEANED FROM OTHER DISCUSSIONS: "I made a little more than a dollar and a half every day in November". @LadyDuck | Source: @NeldaHoxie "I'm in the myLot Money" Photo Source: 401(K) 2012 on Flicker Creative Commons License (CC BY-SA 2.0)

OH, NO! MyLot Admins, don't allow that!! The endless lists of payout money on bubblews got mightily on my nerves. One had to scroll down half a metre until one finally reached the posts. I've never seen them as information for newbies but only as showing off.

Unlike in Bubblews, where it could serve as a reassuring factor, here it is not necessary at all. In a way, myLot is more refined. :)

@TheHorse ..Oh I agree..but on Bubblews it was sort of a way to tell another person, hang in there, your money is on its way. So though you could say it is vulgar, it still made sense to an extent. On myLot it is not necessary at all because this site has been around for much longer, and paid promptly on time.

I just think bragging about how much one is making is vulgar. I never believed the scammers on Bubblews, but I don't really know.

Adrienne, if you have read the "Golden Rules", it is specified: .."However, here is a list of behavior that is never tolerated.... Posting personal milestones I believe that our earnings can be considered personal milestones, I would appreciate the opinion of Alex @GoAskAlice.

@TheHorse I agree, this can also attract the usual spammers and cheaters who think that it easy to become rich cheating the system.

I think I asked about this when I was new here. Personal milestones (I was told) were birthdays, anniversaries, and such like, but posting excitedly about your first dollar here is not taboo. However, beyond that, I don't see it as very constructive.

Good point @LadyDuck. That sounds like a sound interpretation of the rules. And how did you make the username hyperlink? Oh -- never mind. It did it automatically.

There is no specific mention in the Guidelines about posting one's earnings. However, as @LadyDuck has pointed out, any post saying something like "I was paid $X! Hey, MyLot pays" would very likely be covered by the rule about Milestones. Likewise a post saying "I reached $X how much have you earned?" would almost certainly be considered a Poll.

That's right @owlwings no specific mention and that as far as I know was the case at bubblews. There was mention by Kevin or Tyler I think in comments that it was a boring topic. Nameless suggested that it attracted abusers. I am not sure I understand this reasoning for it is information they already know. I do suspect there are some disadvantages to posts that announce earnings as there are advantages but I find it much more interesting how the "rules" develop over time generated by member opinion and discussion.

"Real" is relative - a pidley amount to me may mean riches to another. I do think when we happen to read about potential earnings that have actually been made by other members, it puts the comparison bar out there. It's tantalizing for anyone (who doesn't want to make money?) but particularly for scammers who will find ways to game the system knowing there is money to be made. Rules or no rules, perhaps it's just best to keep the earning amount to ourselves - just knowing that we do indeed get paid keeps me here (oh, after all the heartache we've gone through at the B place and others, I am thrilled to be back on myLot). I can say I've never had problems with being paid here - and I hope it can be kept that way. Just like in real life, I don't really share my income information anyway. Wow, good to see you! You may remember me from the B site as SmilePie. I had wondered how you were and hoped things were going your way!

I personally don't think it's a good idea to be specific about the amount we are earning. It could make the ones earning more feel smug, and the ones earning less feel resentful.

@PainsOnSlate I got a "personal message" from someone asking how much he could make here. I gave him a general "Leave lots of comments" kind of response, but he persisted with questions like "How long would it take to make $100." At that point, I stopped responding.

I agree. I think we should write mostly on other topics of interest. I hope bad memories of not being paid will subside and we can be diversified.

I agree with @jaboUK I don't think its any one's business what we make on here. If someone asks if they can make money say yes, join and find out how its done.

Every penny I make on myLot is more interest than I earn on my checking account. In the short time I've been here I've earned more than my CD did in the last six months, LOL.

Evidently the old myLot had something in the guidelines about not doing it..I'm not sure I'm still new. The current guidelines do not address it at all. Many, including myself, have started discussions about our bank number, etc. Most newbies say it's helpful to know that you can earn and you will get paid.

Good morning, Abby. I couldn't find anything in the guidelines either but didn't know if there's some unspoken rule. Would you mind linking to any discussions about "bank" (old Bubblews term, hee, hee) that you think shed some light. Whether yours or anyone else's.

I've been a freelance writer for several years. Professional writers write to be read. So that is my main focus. The money is just an added perk. I feel all anybody needs to know is the site pays on time with the right amount earned. It's really nobody else business what you earned. With that said, if you want to tell the world what you earn go right ahead. That's your business, not mine.

It is something that is good for those who like to interact on social media like Facebook while making some small change. Doing it as a job is really not something anyone would feel satisfied with progress when it comes to the end of the day. Making a dollar or so throughout the day isn't bad if you would just be running through Facebook anyway.

I agree with most of member's opinion. Posting earning report seems showcasing personal milestone or competition. However, we can always help and guide newbies regarding earning and using mylot.

The format in the old myLot was different in that we could talk about earnings in our profile I think. But here there is no rule as such specified and the fact that there are countless talking about earnings and those posts are intact shows that one can talk about earnings here. myLot is still in the process of finalising its rules and stuff and may be at that time everything will be crystal clear. Till then make hay while the sun shines.
