There was this big man with a gray beard...

Today, at the barbecue, I looked in awe at several things that took place while eating and talking.
First, I tried to put together the new faces with the names I remembered. I could not do it in most of the cases so I stopped trying and I just let it be. But it was funny to have a rather stout lady greet me warmly with a hug and a hello Marga and then discover that it was a girl that used to ask me for advice concerning boys in those far away days.
Then there was this man with a gray beard and a messy hair. I have never seen him in my life, but everyone else knew him by his name
I will ask my friend Alejandra to explain one ot these days.
A former classmate brought me home. Both of us made a great effort to keep a conversation going until we reached my home.
This idea of a reunion after 30 or so years is nice but I would have a family or close friends barbecue instead of this.

Just imagine an 18 or 20 year old turned into a 50 or 55 middle aged man or woman.

@marguicha not a pretty picture and to think that they are looking at me in much the same way.

I went to a couple of HS reunions when the memories were fresh. I'd kind of like to go now after 40 plus years, but I probably would have nothing in common with any of those people anymore.

I talked with my friend Lili today and she told me that I wasn´t supposed to know the gray bearded man in question. He was younger than us. Wow! We have AGED!!!

I have been to some of my husband's reunions, but have not chosen to go to any of mine. He feels connected still, I never felt connected where I went to school.

I have never gone to any of the High Schools reunions and I never will. But I thought I would have more in common with these people.

same here @marguicha. i've had classmates come up to me, but i absolutely don't remember their names and faces. maybe because i was at a different section every year. also, some of them have grown taller or their faces have become more defined.

I guess we all make an effort, but after sometime we had to recurr to talking about the teachers we then had. I had not remembered them for a long time.

I had never gone to one before and I had heard from a friend that she has one once a year. That is too much, I´d say.

The good thing about it was that I discovered what this is all about. Then everyone was posting how beautiful the pictures had been.

@poehere Yesterday, the friend who took me there told me that the next gettogether should be at my house. I told her that by no means. I was curious and that was all. As it is, sometimes I don´t have enough time for my close friends.

@marguicha I am not sure if I will ever go back and see. Most of the people who went there to this school still live in the area and many of them are long time friends. The few friends I did have their families were in the military and then ended up leaving. So if I ever went back I wouldn't know anyone at all.

It seems that these people want to get together every month. And a friend told me that they were thinking about coming to myhouse next time. NO WAY!!!

I think it was ok, but not more than that. I don´t think I was expecting a lot though.
