Making Progress

It's been two months since I broke my leg. I've gone through a lot of healing and therapy in that time. I know I haven't said anything about my leg recently, but the fact is, I'm making progress. I'm trying to get rid of the walker and walk on my own. I did that a lot on Saturday, not so much at the Fair, but at home. But I over did it. I had hoped to make it to church on Sunday and could barely walk. However, today I am again, walking without the walker and going from one end of the house to the other and back again. I also noticed it was almost a normal walk. So things are improving and soon, very soon I hope, I will get rid of the walker, and hopefully at the same time the shower bench. It will be a glorious day when that happens. I'm also taking less painkillers for my leg, though my arthritis in both knees sometimes demands it even when the leg itself isn't hurting all that much. I'm sure the bone is mended. I just need to start walking without aid once again. So there's my progress report. How was/is your day? I'm headed to bed. The guy will be here at 8 in the morning to install the new furnace. Oh Happy Day!

I can understand what you are going through. Last year my dog was playing or wanting to get in the yard ahead of me and pushed me from behind. I ended up falling on my right shoulder and broke my arm in one place a clean through break and had 4 fractures. I was in a sling for close to 10 weeks and another 7 weeks of therapy to learn to use my arm again. This was my first break ever and I sure hope it is last.

That sounds like a mean break. I hope you never go through that again. This is my second break. I broke my right ankle six years ago, and this time my left leg. I'm doing well finally.

@just4him Yes what was so bad about this one it was the top of the bone that goes into your arm socket that snapped. In the first x-ray it showed it had moved out of place and wasn't aligning up with the arm bone. They had to pull it back in place and put me in a sling with some sort of bad that went around the arm and me to hold it in place. I had to wear this for 10 almost 11 weeks. I was so happy when it was taken off. I guess clean breaks take longer to heal. Keep you your exercises and do them often. You might want to take small walks around the home with your walked 4 to 6 times a day. Just get up and walk around the house until you hurt then go and rest again. Keep this up and it will help you build back up your muscles that were lost while in a cast.

@poehere I was never in a cast. Where the break is/was made it impossible to put a cast on. It wouldn't have done any good. So I was in therapy for the first month in the nursing home and now walking with a walker for the last month and ready to move from the walker to on my own. Your break was bad. I'm glad it's completely healed.

Thank you. I'm doing okay without it for the most part this morning, but I have the walker close if I need it.

@just4him It's better to have your walker close, just in case.

Happy to hear about your progress. My day has been going great so far. I managed to spend a little bit more time here than usual because I didn't have so much work to do. Let us know how it goes with the furnace!

The furnace is being installed right now. I can't wait until I feel that heat. Today is still a nice day outside, but I know it won't last. Winter is coming.

sounds like a nasty break, I am glad you are making progress! Especially before snow and ice and weather that makes such things harder and harder to use

@just4him there is something called a willow curve, I think it would do wonders for both of us, I just wish the price wasn't as horrible

It was a nasty break. I tore the ligament and it took a piece of bone with it. The top of the tibia right under the knee. With where it broke, they were unable to cast it, would make no difference, so they put me in a nursing home for a month for rehab. Now two months later I'm about to kick the walker to the curb - or take it back to the nursing home from whence is came.

I was doing the usual but my feet hurts after I jog this morning. wow you had problem with your leg? @just4him I think you should not go over board and feel it with your body if it's too much already. were not young or getting younger so we better be careful with what we do. take it slow.

It has been slow. I'm doing good this morning. I worried I had over done it again, but it's good. I hope your feet feel better soon.

Greart to hear that you are walking of your own in these cases one need their own will to get healed.

I trust God for my healing, not me. I am glad I'm making progress and can finally think about getting rid of the walker.
