Rain, and then, Darkness!

I looked up at the sky yesterday afternoon and into the dark mass of clouds, that I took a pic of, to share with you all, and knew that our weather bureau had at last gotten it right, rain was going to fall, and yes, we had blessed, beautiful rain last night, yes, we need much more, but, there was rain, yippee! Then, as I was doing a happy dance, there the power went off! With those dark clouds, there were these terrible winds howling outside, and a tree had been uprooted and took down power lines in my suburb. Usually, we have nothing good to say about our power company, they have a lot of issues, but in that very stormy weather last night, where they said we could be without power for six hours, they had the power up and running in four hours, and I have to say, that was admirable of them, the storm out there was vicious. Does the power company by you also fight through vicious weather to get power back on at night, or do they wait till the next morning? Well, hopefully tonight we'll have some more rain, without howling winds. Have a wonderful, safe, and blessed week all!

Our power companies are often criticised for how slow they are reconnecting people after storms cause service breaks

Usually we also have only complaints about our power company, they have so many problems, so, it was quite a nice surprise, that they were reasonably quick to get our power back last night.

@Barbourne , that would have saved you all a lot of frustrating power-less hours.

Glad you finally got some rain:). And glad that the power wasn't out for so long. Yeh, we have troubles with our power company, but its mostly with the billing...our bills were up to 500 a month a while ago;/

@HebrewGreekStudies , thank you, the rain has been wonderful, and thank goodness they were quicker getting our power back on than they thought they would be. These last two months they have also messed up our billing, there was a meeting tonight to find out why it is so high, I will have to find out the result tomorrow. I hope the troubles with your billing have been sorted out.

@1hopefulman sadly, no. We pay high rates here-although "mistakes" do happen, we at times we've been double billed;/. It's actually a matter of controversy here and is somewhat common, the Ombudsman had to get involved with the power company.

They actually wait till the bad weather subsides before they work to get power back. I love rain minus the strong wind. We had that this morning and I really loved it. I hope you too.

@salonga , you get extra violent storms by you, so I can understand them waiting till after. I am glad you had gentle rain this time. I also enjoyed the rain, the wind calmed and the lightning flashed in the distance, it was nice after all the dry weeks.

When the power goes out, we are at a loss these days, not knowing what to do with ourselves. However, the electrical work-persons are out there battling the elements and trying to get our power back.

@bluesa A few years ago we had what was called an "ice storm" that crippled our area and I was without power in below freezing weather fo about a week and I had to learn how to survive and I did and saw how hard the utility people worked and even risked their lives. When I eventually got back the power I was so grateful to able to eat a can of beans that I could warm up on my stove.

Yes, and they did battle the elements that night, it was truly vicious, I am grateful they worked through that to get our power back on.

@1hopefulman , that must have been such a tough time, a whole week, plus those terrible weather conditions, I am glad you found a way to work with it, though as I say, that must have been tough, and that they eventually got your power back. They really do work in awful weather, and people tend to forget that. I am sure eating hot food when the power was back, was bliss.

I am glad your rain came but sorry to hear of the problems that come with that. We are fairly lucky where we live, as we are on the same circuit as the local school and old peoples flats. We only ever lose power for ten minutes . Up the road they can lose power for hours or even days.

@bluesa I know we are so lucky not to be off for days. I moved down the road to a different house. If I had stayed where I was I would be off grid for days sometimes.I have pleased you are OK.

@suzzy3 .Thank you, luckily it was resolved and the rain was wonderful. You are lucky to be linked to that school and flats, hours without power is so frustrating, I shudder at the thought of days.

We are spoiled our town if famous for fixing things as soon as possible. Usually a power outage lasts only an hour or so.

You are lucky to live in a town that is so quick to sort out such problems. Our suburb has many power issues, that is why I was surprised they worked to fix it sooner rather than later.

Every time we have a bad storm of any kind, especially with heavy snow, ice or wind, I expect the power to go out and so far, it never has on a stormy day or night. But take a random sunny day, with no breeze at all, and suddenly the power will go out. We don't know why. I suspect squirrels.

That happens here, a sunny day, and wham, no power, we get so annoyed, but, it is not squirrels (which by the way, yikes), nope, instead they say they are fixing our tower, but, it is always the same story.

@sofssu , thank you :-). Yes we get major thunderstorms, lightning, it had us hopping a few times, but luckily after that uprooted tree, there was nothing else that happened.

Our power company also fight to give the power back in the shortest possible time, no matter the water conditions, if it's night, Sunday or the Christmas day.

@bluesa We put a blower on ours so it blows the heat into other areas of the house. The living room was always warm but the bedrooms were cold. This made such a big difference.

Luckily this is summer rain by me, so, no fire needed. We have dry winters, and just as well, because we do not have a fire place. I would so love a fire place, I hope the rain does not add too much to the chill by you, but, if it does, light up a nice fire in that fire place and I hope it keeps you all toasty warm.
