On track to get fit

Thursday's weekly shopping is now followed by a walk around the Athletic track. I have to do the shopping first because after the track all I want to do is go home, take off my shoes and have a cup of coffee.
I am progressively lengthening the exercise. At first I managed once around the 1st lane, when I had increased that to twice for a couple of times I moved on to the 2nd lane. Today I did two turns around the 3rd lane and I shall do that several times before moving on.
The doctor said that my new hip needs exercise and I need to lose some weight so, in a manner of speaking, I am trying to kill two birds with one stone.

It is the only one I like too and apart from walking the only other recommendation the doctor made was to go swimming, which I did while the sea was warm.

@LadyDuck As you live in Switzerland I expect there are many beautiful places for you to walk all the year round. Swimming is a short term choice anyway.

@41CombedaleRoad I am allergic to chlorine and Switzerland has no sea, so the pool is not an option.

It is always good to be fit. Exercising is good, keep it up you will surely reap the benefits.

I'm hoping that one of the benefits will be a loss of weight, but I have to work harder for that dream to come true.

@41CombedaleRoad Yes of course, it is certainly one of the benefits, you just have to be consistent.

@salonga I have to combine it with a dietary routine as well and that is not such a pleasure as the walking.

No marathons, I would get bored with going round and round the track! Of course I live in the country where the first marathon was run but even so I think I will not raise my sights too high.

Good for you. It sounds like you're giving yourself quite the workout.

Work out will not qualify for some time yet, when I get to the desired distance then I will concentrate on working up the speed.

I too have started walking more .... free and easy and can be done at a time to suit you .... it is amazing the good it can do. Hope everything works out okay for your hip.

At what time of day do you walk. Morning sun is good for the bones, usually before 11.

It is much easier to lose weight if you combine a sensible diet with exercise. I'm not very good on the exercise bit!
