We call this vegetable "sitaw" or string beans, others call it snap beans or green beans. This is a good source of fiber that lowers cholesterol level. It also contains several vitamins for healthy eyes and bones.
My family loves string beans especially when sautéed with shrimps or cooked adobo style. But lately my husband noticed that whenever he eats string beans, he experiences joint pain. I learned that string beans is high in purine that can trigger arthritic pain. So I have decided to avoid serving him this vegetable and I advised him to drink plenty of water too.
Do you also have joint pain? What food do you avoid to help your condition? Or do you avoid any vegetable because of your health condition?

@PainsOnSlate Yes it will help, also watch your consumption of other high purine veggies like lentils, mushrooms, cauliflowers, artichokes, bean sprouts, broccoli, brussels sprouts,& leeks. Tomato which they say is a fruit not veggie has high purine too.

$10 a kilo! That is around 470 in Philippine peso, that is very expensive. You can get them for free in my garden.

Sometimes my knees are also painful when I had eaten foods high in purine... but I still eat them. I love string beans. We cook it with other veggies - dinengdeng.

Yes certainly it is, because it belongs to the bean family. It is high in uric acid so you might as well avoid or just eat in moderation.

This could be genetic and also there are other high purine foods apart from certain vegetables. My unsolicited advice is you try to lose weight, drink at least 12 glasses of water every day, walk daily in the morning, avoid high purine food as well. It will help.

@salonga I'm drinking the water, but the walking has to wait until my leg is completely healed and I get rid of this walker. I'm sure the bone is mended, but the ligament isn't yet or it needs to be strengthened. I'm still having a hard time with movement in the leg.

we had a case presentation about septic arthritis. the pathophysiology presented by the students showed that legumes are high in purine, with the end metabolism of uric acid.
I avoid dark green leafy vegetables because these have high Vitamin K content; not advisable for a person with rheumatic heart disease.

Yes it is the wisest thing to do. Many people end up in distressful health condition because they can't control their appetite.

After I had given birth, I have been experiencing joint pains. My cousin told me that it is normal. She said, it will go away. I heard from old people that some food trigger arthritis and rheumatism but my mom thinks that it is all in the mind.

Of course it is not all in the mind because you can actually feel your joints aching. If we agree it is all in the mind, chances are it will worsen our condition.
