Happiness: A State of Mind over Circumstance!

Psychologists have often pointed out that your mind can be a powerful instrument in your life's journey. In fact, it can fuel and even enhance your happiness factor. Happiness can be evasive. One needs to be smart to be happy. Material things cannot buy you happiness. Having a positive mental attitude can ensure that you stay happy the rest of your life. Your positive attitude can triumphantly get you by through rough spots like poor health, financial difficulties, lack of education among several others. We humans generally tend to be the victims of our circumstances. We blame our circumstances for whatever bad things that come our way. But if we are strong enough to navigate around our current circumstance and take the blame ourselves, we could find creative ways to be happy. So folks, what do you think? Can you be truly happy with your current circumstances- - - no matter where you are, where you live, how much you earn or how much you have in your pocket?

Happiness is like your shadow, you can never quite catch it if you chase after it. If you turn your back on its pursuit, it'll follow you like a shadow suppose to!

Its perhaps true @drosophila I suppose "turning your back on it" means you do not concentrate solely on finding happiness for yourself, but sharing it with others. Right?

@Gabugs That's one way of doing it! :) People look for happiness as some life long quest, and often times they forget to appreciate and be happy in the current moment. Most people I know are "retro respectively happy", they didn't know they were happy until they looked back on their lives. If one is constantly in pursuit of something, one expect to find it in the future, but really one is missing the opportunity of enjoying that thing right now.

@Drosophila What you said is so true! One has to try and be happy in that particular moment in time.

You are so right. Everything can be handled with a sober mind. I might also add that it is not how much we have but what we make of what we have is the route to happiness and that is where our mind works full on.

@allknowing Indeed yes, one cannot measure happiness. The degree of happiness we derive each day, could vary with each individual based on his/her perception. In short, a person's mental attitude determines an integral part of his/her life.

Yes, what you said is very correct. Happiness is state of mind and it is for us how we want to feel happiness. If we keep blaming circumstances around us and do not try to adjust ourselves as per the prevailing conditions, we just cannot be happy. If we have a feeling of contentment and satisfaction, we could move ahead easily. Life is full or problems and hurdles, but we need to overcome it to traverse the path of life.

I enjoy the present, forget about the past and do not worry about the future, the only way not to stress.

@Gabugs Aging I became more wise, even if you stress about the future you cannot change the course of life.

@LadyDuck So true! As we mature, our thinking gets matured too! Although we cannot change lie's course, I tend to worry about my grandkids future with all the negative things going around today.

Wow! @ladyduck That's wonderful to know Anna. Wish we all could do that. But times change, our circumstances change. Once we are beset with problems, we may not be able to maintain that stance and attitude. Maybe just pray!

Its so true @just4him If we look hard and long enough, we will find something or the other to be happy about. I think the best strategy would be to make someone happy too!

my future looks bleak and uncertain but I enjoy the present. For many, ignorance really is bliss, spending today without thought of the debts later - happiness can be a cruel illusion.

@arthurchappell I agree with you on this important point. We cannot allow ourselves to simply live in a state of denial; we have got to be realistic of our limitations like the "debts " you mentioned. Of course, we cannot spend away our resources and make merry with no thought of tomorrow. In short, maintaining a sense of BALANCE in what we do, is the key.
