The Inspector Was Here

He called last night to say he would be here this morning at 8:30 to inspect the furnace so the company could be paid. He was ten minutes early and I was ready for him, almost. I crawled out of bed at 7:15 and needed to get the kitchen finished - dishes done and the table and counters cleaned off and generally looking decent. I had the dishes done and the garbage was taken out. I now have the table and counters looking decent. His inspection showed the people who put in the furnace will be making a return visit to get the job done right. There's a minor gas leak - he said it's been there for 20 years and is not a danger to me, but it still needs to be fixed and a couple other things and I'm going to get a different thermostat - the programmable one. So I can expect them back perhaps in the next week. He said he wasn't certain when they would be back as there is a lot of work right now with the weather about to turn cold. How did your day start? Thanks for reading.

Are they kidding? There is a a gas leak and it's not dangerous! They would shut everything, until it's not fixed, here.

He said he finds these kinds of gas leaks all the time. He said it was nothing to worry about, but someone will be out to fix it.

A gas leak is not a minor thing. Why don't you call the government department who takes care of stuff like that and make a report?

They are a government department who did the inspection of the new furnace. I agree I don't think it's minor either. It brought to mind an incident that happened a few years ago. I had been having bad headaches and a few other symptoms and I looked info up on line and found I had carbon monoxide poisoning and went over to the hospital. They didn't believe me until the tests came back positive for it. I also had the fire department here as a result to locate the gas leak and they couldn't find it. Now I'm wondering why the inspector could find it in a matter of minutes and the fire department couldn't.

Well glad you know the reason for your furnace issues. I hope they can get it fixed before it gets too cold.
