Another Lost Christmas

When we were engaged my husband and I saw very little of one another because he was studying abroad. It was quite a strain communicating mostly by letters and long distance telephone calls. Eventually we both got concerned about whether we had made the right decision and our letters crossed in the post breaking the engagement. It was just a week to Christmas.
I spent a very lonely Christmas painting my kitchen to take my mind off things. It was blue and that just about expressed how I felt.
After Christmas he called and told me he was going to fly home, in the New Year, which he did. We sorted ourselves out, I put my ring back on my finger and six months later we got married. That was 40 years ago. My Christmases have been happy ever since.

Congratulations for your forthcoming 41st. It must have been very romantic having a Christmas wedding.

@LadyDuck The cape sounds glamourous as well as romantic, warm and practical too. I hope it snowed on that day and if not I hope it snows on the 27th just for you.

@41CombedaleRoad I liked our winter wedding, my family and friends liked my long white winter cape, very unusual.

Long distance relationships do cause you to doubt and question your plans. Glad you got it right.

An engagement period is the time when people learn more about the person they are intending to share their lives with, as we were hardly together during that time it meant that our first year together was quite a learning curve.

I too have lots to share about our first Christmas. We were married in October. I gave my husband a radio as gift. How I went about it may be I could create a post on it.

Let's hear about it, if you have a story this is the place for it to be shared. A radio was quite a unique gift, so perhaps you could start there...?

I have to confess Simone that my first marriage only lasted 11 years, this is my second and I wanted to be sure this time around would be OK.

@41CombedaleRoad I met the perfect man but he was only in my life for a year and a half. He passed away and I haven't found anyone else. I have resigned to the fact that I will never get married again. But my brother and I live together so I am not alone.

That's sweet. I know how tough long-distance relationship can be. Happy to know that things have turned out wonderfully for both of you.

People did not think they would because it was not the ideal start. Happily, they were wrong.

I asked so many questions in those days. Now I know it is better not to ask because he always replies with another question, hence the long phone calls.
