Idle morning thoughts: usernames and passwords.

The sun is bright and I got my flip-flops and went to the garden. While I weed my plants, my thoughts wander in the most incredible ways. Today I was thinking in the style of the "what ifs". What if we all changed our username here at mylot Would be eventually discover who were our old friends? Do we have a voice that lets other people guess who we are in spite of change of names or even lack of them? When I became a member of the old mylot, I came across a very rude woman. She accused me of many things and I was banned from thesite. I changed my username and that has been it for years. Have you had the need to change your username or your password? Have you wanted to do it for any reason?

Changing a username is never allowed on most sites because it is part of our registration, so the only way would be to delete the account and begin again. If a username change was allowed then I probably would have changed mine when I returned to Mylot. My username is Asylum but I chose Koalemos after registering here and use it everywhere else. Fortunately Mylot does allow us to use a screen name as well, so I was able to add Koalemos that way.

@marguicha I also cycle passwords on important accounts, which is always a good practice.

I was then deleted and began a new account. But I was thinking about what ifs, not about actual happenings. I change my Bank account password frecuently after I was hacked once.

I don´t want to do it. I just toyed with the idea that we would or would not be recognised by our friends.

So far so good, no need to change my username or password.

I have a different username in some sites, but not very many as I don´t have memory enough to remember them

When I joined Bubblews, I chose not to use the ID I usually use online. Mostly it was because I expected the site to be a bit crap and I didn't want my 'good' name associated with it. After a year and a half I now feel as much boingboing as I do my old ID.

wow can't believe that woman was being super rude to you. :O Yeah. This is probably my third account. First time my ex boyfriend hacked in and deleted it. Cause he was a major butt much. Second time I stopped cause...same thing ex being a bigger butt munch. And just now starting again cause I'm "allowed to" be on here.

I did have to change my username once when I (along with a lot of other people) was banned for no apparent reason. After a month, my old account (and earnings) was restored and I deleted the temporary account. Other than that, I have never wanted or needed to be anything other than Owlwings. I think that it would be rather confusing if we all changed our usernames. I do think that many people would be recognisable by their style and it wouldn't take long to find old friends again. Would it be the same, I wonder, if everyone woke up one day in somebody else's physical body?

I use the name Porcospino on most international sites, but I have a few other names that I use on the local sites from my country. On most sites I don't change my username. What would happen if we all changed our usernames? Actually that could be an interesting experiment I think that I would be able to recognize some of my friends based on their writing style and their topics, but I probably wouldn't be able to recognize everyone.

I believe we can change our name, but the username can only be "deleted" by the Admin. I like my username and avatar and I never change them.
