I Believe in Santa, I do, I do, I do

One year when my youngest child was questioning their belief in Santa Claus I searched for things to try to keep that belief in her life for one more year. I wasn't ready for my youngest to give up that belief yet. I tried everything I could to try to keep her belief going. I enlisted her sisters in my effort to have that one last year of belief. I finally hit upon a super simple idea, or so I thought. I decided that I would make reindeer tracks out in the snow in our driveway and placed a partially chewed carrot there. The next morning I let the girls go outside to retrieve our morning paper and guess what. They found the carrot. They all acted excited when I told them it was left there by Rudolph. I said that he didn't have time to eat it all. My darling daughter then and there said she had not doubt that Santa himself had been in our driveway. I found out years later that my girls had given me that one last year of believing that Santa still existed in our home. What a wonderful thing for them to do. They had not believe for a couple of years. Even my younger one hadn't believe.

@HazySue I would have loved the extra year too. I always loved Christmas when my children were young and still believed in Santa.

@simone10 it just seems more magical through a child's eyes.

That was sweet of them! I can't remember when I "knew" that the grown-ups "helped" Santa considerably.

@HazySue Yep, that's good kid reason for saying something like There is no Santa!

@TheHorse I was about 7 years old when my cousin told me. She was mad at me and wanted to pay me back for something.

Our boys figured out the truth about Santa Claus being the spirit of giving that comes alive in people this time of year, rather than being a corporeal person, when they were fairly young. But to this day, they believe that the spirit of Santa is alive and well.

Those are the days I remember most too when Christmas rolls around. The whole magic of it all when my kids were small. Now I have grandchildren to keep the magic going

As kids @HazySue , we were raised as Jehovah Witnesses, so there was no Xmas or any other holiday except Passover. Not even our birthdays.

We did something similar one year although the ground was too hard for hoofprints. But we did leave a small piece of horse manure to go with the carrots to make it look more genuine. What lovely daughters you have.

@JudyEv we couldn't leave hoof prints and actually I didn't think of the manure. I think it is these extra little things we do for our children that gives them such warm memories of Christmas past.
