Irish Potato Candy And Other Random Things.

This will be a very random discussion. So you know, pretty much the usual from me. I've been craving some Potato Candy. I am almost certain that it is an Irish recipe. I've talked about it before a long long time ago on the old mylot. You take potato the size of an egg and boil it, mash it up but do not add the butter and cream. I don't actually make this, a family member does it for me as I can not do confectionaries to save my life. Anyway you make a pastry, smear peanut butter on to said pastry, roll it up and chill it in the fridge. It's delicious but not for diabetics! --- I am really not sure what to expect about work tonight. We've been having some unfair things going on and I am hoping they will finally be sorted out. I don't like to complain about work very often but there has been a lot to complain about lately. The complaints have been brought to the attention of the higher up's so I'm hoping something will finally be done. --- I have an idea for what to get my nephew, who I am still shopping for. I need to run it by my sister first to make sure she won't object to the gift.

Hope all goes okay at work. Sometimes figuring out what to get someone is over half of the batter. Your Potato candy reminded me of Idaho Spuds. Sort of a marshmallow center with chocolate and coconut on the outside. Delicious. Made by the Idaho Candy Company here in Boise And it also reminded me of the sundae they have at the fair. Ice cream shaped like a potato with coco dusted on it. Then chocolate syrup and whipped cream.

Half the Batter? I guess you mean battle? When you said "Idaho Spuds" it made me think of a brand of instant potatoes. I don't know the exact name of it but Idaho is part of it. All of this talk of treats is giving me a sweet tooth!

@ScribbledAdNauseum The brand you're looking for is called idahoan. They're actually my favorite instant potatoes. We use them for shepard's pie at home.

Would not surprise me if we slapped a label on the recipe just to entice people into making it. My family got the recipe from an aunt's good friend years ago. I've always known it as an Irish thing, but as I said... doesn't surprise me.

I am French-Canadian and my Mom used to make potato candies too. So I am not so sure it is an Irish thing.

I'm beginning to think it was labelled as "Irish" because it had potatoes in it... It's good to hear that the recipe isn't just secluded to one area of the world though.

I never had the experience of a potato candy and sure would like to try. As for work wise, I hope you will be able to get things worked out your way. All the best for the week.

If you ever get the occasion to make it, you can find recipes online. Thank you for your well wishes about my work situation. Last night was much better than it has been.

It is. You can find recipes for it online, our own recipe alters somewhat from what the internet has to offer.

According to Mike down there it actually originated in Philadelphia, USA. It's delicious but the recipe calls for a box of confectioner's sugar so definitely not healthy.

A few years ago an old acquaintance of mine suggested it be renamed "peanut butter candy" as while there is a potato in it, it mostly consists of the pastry and peanut butter.
