Christmas Memories

When I was a youngster we had a lot of Christmas traditions. I hung out a lot with my cousins, two girls about my same age. We played at my grandmother's in the summer in our early years. But, we no longer communicate which is sad but there is reason for it. I will explain at some later time. The older of the two cousins was in the senior choir at high school and I recall one year her choir group was invited to sing at the capitol building. It was a beautiful affair. They began at the top of the winding stairs that rounded the Christmas tree and came down them to the front entry. The lighting, the marble stairs, the choir gowns and the voices all made for a very lovely program. Afterwards, the three of us drove up to the Highlands and sang Christmas carols. The Highlands is a nice housing development in the north end where we lived. We would park and walk around the area singing and adding some people along the way. People would come out of their fancy houses and bring us hot chocolate, candy canes and other goodies. It was a good time. I don't hear of any Christmas caroling around town anymore.
