Happy Chanukah from Laguna Beach

Laguna Woods, California
December 9, 2015 11:12pm CST
Whether you are Jewish or not, I think you will love this menorah that was set up by a synagogue in Laguna Beach. It is actually a workable menorah with lights on the top. I thought I would share it with all my friends here on MyLot, regardless of their religion. Whether you are in the middle of celebrating Chanukah, or just beginning your Christmas preparations, or you celebrate other winter holidays, I want to wish you Happy Holidays.

That is a lovely wish to us all. I love the menorah. In the ski towns people like to build gates, garden benches, etc. out of snow skis. I have yet to see a menorah.

I think a menorah built from skis would be very unique!

@DeborahDiane now I wish I had collected old useless skis at the garage sales this past summer . My husband is usually up for a project.

@paigea maybe I will search for discarded hockey sticks. Well Chanukah is going to be over!

The menorah is very creative, using surfboards.

I think that that is a wonderful menorah and we have several Synagogues in our area and of course Jewish friends.

@BelleStarr - @Paigea said that she would like one made from old skis or hockey sticks, since she lives in a snowy area. I think that would be a fun idea, too!

Is Chanukah the same of Hanukah? I believe it is the same Jewish celebration commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

Yes, Chanukah is another spelling for Hanukah. Both words refer to the Festival of Lights, a Jewish holiday.

@DeborahDiane My in-laws were Jewish and they celebrated Hanukah, I imagined it was another spelling.

@LadyDuck - Yes, I have spelled it both ways in the past. I just chose to spell it this way because that is the way the synagogue spelled in on the surfboard menorah. One of my son-in-laws is Jewish, and he liked it, too.

Thanks for the good wishes. I had to look up 'menorah'. This is a lovely way of depicting it.

I'm glad you enjoyed this rather unique, Southern California version of a menorah. I have seen many, but never one like this!

Oh, I see. It is that 7 candles arranged like a hand fan? Sorry for the description.

I actually think that it is nine candles but, yes, you have the right idea. Chanukah is also known as the Festival of Lights.

Yes, it is made of a row of surfboards. I would have thought it sacrilegious, but a Jewish synagogue put it up. I love it.
