Food tour of Bangkok.

During our recent trip to Bangkok we went on a night food tour by Tuk tuk. A tuk tuk is a kind of taxi that is made like a bit of a go cart powered by a motor bike. It only has three wheels but boy can they duck and dive through the traffic in Bangkok. We had to meet at a station in central Bangkok at 7PM where we would meet the others going on the food tour. In total there were fourteen people on the tour from different countries around the globe. Hong Kong, San Francisco, South America, Australia, France and us two from the UK. Once everyone had arrived we were taken down to the waiting tuk tuks and onto the first restaurant. The restaurant cooked chicken. It was mainly boiled and served with rice. There were a couple of dishes here. We then all got back in our tuk tuks and raced off to another restaurant where we watched them cook chicken in a kind of omelette. Our next stop was the night flower market where we saw some beautiful exotic flower so many different types of orchids and some unrecognisable flowers. We visited the night fruit and veg market where we tried baby pineapple, Long Kongs which are similar to Longon. We also had pork Satay here. We all piled into our tuk tuks and headed for Wat Pho where we practically had the whole temple complex to ourselves. It was delightful to walk around minus other tourists. Our next stop was as ecret bar over looking Bangkoks river. It was up five flights of stairs. We were ready for a drink by time we reached the top I can tell you. It gave great views all over the river towards Wat Arun and back towards Wat Pho. Finally we stopped off at our last restaurant to eat the Thai famous dish of Pad Thai. This delicious noodle dish is cooked really quickly in a wok. It is then placed on a plate and handed to another cook who has a massive wok. He coats the pan with an egg mixture which is wafer thin. He then plops the Pad Thai inside the micro thin omelette and it is then served to you at the table. I have made a collection of photos on you tube. It was great fun but of course you do not get the sights sounds and smells of the places you visit.
A mad night tour of Bangkok flying around in Tuk Tuks to different restaurants around the city, Great experience. Great food and great company.

@garymarsh6 I really enjoy watching your videos. For someone who never traveled much and can't now, it's like I am there myself.

You are enjoying international cuisine in the Sun while us poor pensioners have to make do with a jam sandwich in the rain.

It's so nice that you have a video of that food tour . Was it you who did that or was it just provided for all of you ? So, what was the bet food at that food tour ? I also thinking of Bangkok in my bucket list of "to visit " countries when we already can . Are the clothes and bags on sale there nice ?

We booked it up before we went there. The best food was right at the end. The Pad Thai it was delicious although the mango and sticky rice was lovely too. The markets in Bangkok are marvellous you can buy anything there and it is very cheap.

Congratulations for your slideshow Gary, very professional. It has been an interesting virtual tour, I have been attracted by the photos of the Pad Thai, because this is what my husband has asked for dinner.

It was delicious Anna. I love Pad Thai. For my 50th Birthday I hired the whole of a Thai restaurant and we had a Thai banquet. Oh my word you have never seen so much food. It was continuous food that kept coming and coming. All of us were stuffed to the ears. I thought it was really great value for how much they charged for it,

Thank you. It goes back to my mum who would have loved to have travelled but my father never would. I did manage to take them to Germany and France one year though but that was about as far as they ever got. I know my mum would have enjoyed every single minute of it.

We love Thai food, especially that served in NY restaurants. It must have been a wonderful trip. My son loved it there. We did a trip quite similar in Beijing.

No they eat pork, beef and wonderful sea food. The Thai diet is lovely and tasty using lots of lemon grass and chillis. It is a taste sensation.

One couple were French and spoke no English. It was great fun trying to translate for them I can tell you! The guide kept asking me to tell them what she was describing in French to them.

@garymarsh6 I hope your French was better than mine then! In our menus they keep finding and new and exotic names for very ordinary fare. I wonder if they do that in French. I would suspect so as I found it hard to decipher French menus sometimes.
