A shooter was reported on the Arkansas State University campus yesterday afternoon around 1:30pm. Students started receiving texts from the school and were told to stay inside. The campus was on a lock down. The suspect had driven onto the grounds and was seen holding a shotgun and had propane containers in the back of his truck. Police arrived quickly and had his truck surrounded. There were reports that the suspect had written on facebook that he was suicidal and homicidal. Both the SWAT team and the Bomb squad was called in. Around 3pm the suspect was apprehended. No one was hurt or shot during the incident. We live just a few miles from where this happened. It was quite scary for a while because no one knew at first if there were any shootings or if the gunman was at large. It could have all turned out differently but I am proud of the Jonesboro police department for acting so quickly and of the students who barricaded themselves inside and turned tables on their sides to hide behind.
The suspect involved in an "active shooter" situation on the campus of Arkansas State University is in jail.

I hadn't heard about this one - but I'm glad the suspect was found and no one was hurt! We live near a college too and there have been some incidents . . . it IS scary when it happens so close to home. It's all scary period!

@simone10 I worry too (I have 2 kids in elementary school). But apparently we have to worry about the big kids in college too. And not only that, just going anywhere in public - all of us - we live in a mad, mad world!!

@much2say that's very true, just think of what Paris went through recently. You really aren't safe anywhere.

I would really worry if I had children in college or even in school these days. I know we can't worry and have to live our lives but when it affects our children, I can't help but worry.

Yes, it really is. At first, everyone panicked because who were close by. The news was kind of sketchy and we didn't know if the shooter was on the move, in one of the buildings or what. We also didn't know if someone was hurt. Fortunately he was detained before he could even get out of the parking lot and no one was hurt.

Oh my God that was scary! Good that the police were able to stop that man. Is he in prison now?

My first thought on the title was oh no not again, but so glad the suspect was apprehended without anyone getting hurt or worse this time.

That is the first thing I thought too when it came across the TV. It was very fortunate that he was caught before he could do any harm.

Just makes me wonder what kind of a world we live in. What is wrong with this generation as a whole. I am so glad that the police were so quick and efficient and no one was hurt.

It really has and sadly I don't think it will be getting any better. I can totally understand why parents want to homeschool their children.

All the students were talking about it and most of them were scared of what could have happened.

It was just as scary afterward as it was when it was going on because you can't help but think what could have happened.
