Do you like eggnog?

Every year I get eggnog for the holidays, this time it was eggnog with rum flavor. I bought three bottles and they are all gone now. I am thinking about if I should get some more. Do you have eggnog for the holidays?

My noggin is nagging for some nog knowledge! I just asked my buddy if he knew what "nog" was and if there were other types of "nog" besides the egg-variety. He shrugged his shoulders. Then I saw your discussion....and here I am! Any idea? I realize I could type three letters into any search engine, but I figured that's less human interactions...so I'll wait and see what you know (or probably just look up!) On my bottles, one has it written as "Eggnog" and the other one has a space like this: "Egg Nog"! MMMMmmmm... going to get me a gallon of beet-nog today! I truly hope that's not a thing! Oh, and yes I DO like GOOD Eggnog...and buy some more, please...the eggnog farmers are hurting for some payout these days I do believe!

@ataboy there is one theory that it was called that because it was originally served in a wood cup called a noggin in England, and the name was just shortened to this specialty drink as egg nog, or egg in a nog.

@winterose I would say "and/or" between the cognac and whiskey parts myself! But Actually I prefer rum in my Nog. And I say "nog" because if there's no other types of "nog" then why preface it with the word "egg" at all? Why not milk nog or "milk-cream-egg-sugar-nog"!? Do you see what I'm getting at? I just thought it a bit odd...like there's only one kind of water really, but we don't have to call it "wet water" or anything...the 'wet' part is just implied! No?

Thank you so much , @winterose, for that amazing answer! You either have an incredible amount of knowledge up-there in your "noggin", or you took the time to research the answer...Quite honestly the two place you on an exactly equally intelligence level in my books! Most people might not see it that way, but I think that someone that is intelligent enough to locate knowledge has an equal footing relative to someone that knows something! You've been very helpful...even if it's an unproven theory....It makes total sense! Thank you for taking the time to answer me, sweetheart! I am MORE than merely grateful! Enjoy your 'nog', and I will too!

I have tried eggnog once because my friend in America wanted to see if I liked it. I tried it and it was alright for the first couple of sips but then I didn't enjoy it that much after. It's an ok drink but wouldn't go out and buy it for myself.

@winterose I guess cause it really isn't a tradition here. Well I mean it really isn't an Aussie thing I don't think to have it. It is sold here but I don't think it is popular during the holidays like it is in other places.

@VivaLaDani13 you are probably right, but if it is sold there it is because somebody is buying it, probably the ex Americans lol

We never had eggnog growing up. I was only introduced to it when I met my husband. I've enjoyed drinking it every Christmas since.

@winterose It really is. I'm finding myself really wanting to have some around, during this time of the year. It usually doesn't last long. My girls are even enjoying it.

I do like eggnog, but my daughter-in-law serves Martinellis Cider for Christmas. I like that too, as now they have different flavors. I haven't had eggnog in a very long time, and since I am the only one here, I just haven't thought about buying any. I guess I might though, as I would be the only one to drink it anyway.

@winterose Yes, I do, but I haven't had it in so long, that it is okay. I am not going to buy it just so I can have some, as I am the only one who drinks it anyway. I would prefer Martinelli's cider, which is really good too, and my son and daughter-in-law will serve that on Christmas.

@winterose Yes. Either ginger ale or 7 UP. It adds fizzy to the too sweet thickness and cuts that thickness. Great combo.

Years ago I couldn't stand the taste but now I like certain ones and if rum is added, (the real thing), all the better.

I imagine if you wanted to you could dilute it with milk or water.
