Running Into The Sunrise and Sunset

I love my camera. Since the beginning of digital cameras I have taken thousands of photos. That is easy to do because they go right to your computer, you can edit and play with them, you can delete the bad ones and keep the good, you can transfer them to CD's in the comfort of your own home. No more spending money for having film processed or doing it yourself in a dark room. When I was in college I studied Photography as part of my Art Program. We used huge big cameras and carried them around town to do our assignments and then to the dark room to process and print the film. I learned how to remove flaws from the prints and make a perfect picture. It was a ton of fun. Now we can do all do that. No more dark rooms, no more smelly chemicals, just a computer and an editing program. We often go away to a beach, a warm and sandy place and because I'm an early riser I have caught hundreds of sunrises and even more sun sets. Looking over an ocean has always lured me to take photos of the sun. This photo I took while in the Boonies of Ontario a year ago, I edited it on the computer to make it smaller and brighter, it warms my heart. Sometimes just going out you back door you can find amazing sights. I guess we don't really need to leave town to take a great photo. But when it snows, I still want to head to a warm and sandy beach. Anyone else have the urge to run when it snows? And if you already live in a warm sandy area, where do you go to run away?

We will be heading to our Florida home on January 2. Two months in the warm weather but no beach, we are in Ocala, horse country.

Yes, picture taking is so much better these days, then back a while ago. I do still remember the first camera bought me when I was 10. A Kodak instamatic that took 110 film!

I've always been fond of Kodak, they made great cameras and film. Now digital has taken over i like Cannon.

@PainsOnSlate I have been relying on my cell phone and smart phone cameras through the years. Now my younger sister bought an $800 camera (she saved the money from couponing and CVSing!) and it takes out of this world pics, so to speak. She loves taking pictures of the moon and the sky. Astronomy magazine put one of her pics in their issue, and also an online magazine, I think, Sky featured one of her photos too. She once took a pic of Saturn, you can see the rings. Simply amazing!

@Pattitude Wow I've had some interesting cameras but nothing as good as that. I've never been able to photo the stars

I live in NC so we don't get as cold as it is up North. Our winters are pretty erratic. Last year was very cold and we even had snow. This year I have no idea how it will turn out. I like to see the snow as long as we don't have to travel in it. Living here it might last a week or two at the most. Of course the colder weather can last longer but I can live with it for now.

@PainsOnSlate That is so funny. Everyone who lives up north and comes here always complains about us southener's not being able to drive in bad weather and our lack of being able to handle the snow and ice. Things have improved a bit over the years. One thing that really swamps counties/cities and towns is the budgets. Normally we don't have to worry about snow and ice so the areas don't reserve enough cash for the extended periods of time. Of course over the last several years we have had more snow and ice and the budgets have been upped in order to buy the extra salt and pay for the extra overtime that goes along with weather. We do still close schools and government offices, etc if the weather is bad. Normally, when kids raised in the South move up North they are highly disappointed that schools don't close for a bit of snow and ice.

We were in Myrtle Beach a couple of years ago and stuck in our Time share for more days than we counted on. There was an ice storm. The State did nothing, everything closed for a few days and when it melted we got to go out again, CRAZY but I know they don't get ice often but we do up here in Canada..

Mother Nature is an endless entertainment for a human with a camera. It's my favorite too. Although I am drawn to graffiti while in town or cities...some is photo worthy.

That is a great shot, I also get some of the best sun set photos outside of my front door, since I am in warm climes, and can't get to the beach this month, I am still contemplating climbing into my freezer.. :-D

@PaintsOnSlate , I know you were probably tired of snow last year, or do you miss it this year? But, I must say it is a worry that it is so warmish by you this year to those of us who associate Canada as a white winter wonderland. Thank you, I hope I can make it to the beach soon too. :-)

@bluesa I used to ski and loved snow, then I had knee replacement and could no longer ski so if I can't ski I don't even want to see it

I started the Christmas shopping yesterday and I was sweating. We are not supposed to do that in Canada in December. Hope you get to the beach soon!

The older I get the more I can't tolerate high temperatures. I wish I could find a place where it's 75 each and every day year round.

It's fun to play with a camera. I try to have it with me all the time, you never know what will be begging for a photo. I'm pretty good at it but certainly no pro...

I love sunrise and sunset photography. One of my first great photographs was an incredible fiery orange sunset over Lake Grapevine in Texas. I have never seen another sunset like the one I captured that day. I believe it was in August 2010 or so.

I loved the sunsets in Kansas when i lived there. I thought it was the heat that made them so beautiful! But Kansas didn't have many lakes to have it reflecting off.

Beautiful photo! I cannot say that I like the cold weather, but I like the snow, if I do not need to go outside.

@PainsOnSlate We are in the southern part of Switzerland, it's not as bad as the north, we never have too much snow, a foot at most and only a couple of month a year.

This is a strange year. Usually we have several feet of snow by now and we keep getting deeper until April. That's just too long and because we're retired we head south for part of it - not all of it.

That photo is more like a painting - it's gorgeous. I just have a very basic camera - just point and shoot. Regarding where people run to - a change is as good as a rest they say, so somewhere different from what you are used to is great.

I love digital. so easy now. When I changed computers all the photos were dumped on the new one and its going to take a long time to get through them all and remove the bad ones. I haven't just done that yet but as I search for one I delete dozens.

That is a lovely photo. I can understand why you love it. Vince is just heading outside as there is supposed to be a meteor shower tonight and it's a cloudless night. I don't know that he is going to take photos though. It's nearly 10pm and I'll be off to bed soon.

I love to take pictures of the effects that the wind has had on the snow, the drifts that are created.

I love seeing that too., Where I live we don't have large spaces to watch the snow drift but I do enjoy it when i get the chance.
