I have a friend who just takes amazing photographs of bugs. I had never seen such photos in all my life. You could actually see the hairs on the legs of the bugs she was photographing. I was determined to take such shots.
I have not nor will I ever be as good at bug shots as she is, but I do try. Stinging bugs are scary to me, I have no desire to piss off a stinging insect just for a photo opportunity She once told me something to help me along in my quest for that shot. She said some insects or it could be all insects, are sluggish early in the morning due to the cooler temperatures during the night. So take your shots of these insects early in the morning before the temps warm up and the insect starts it's day. Worked for me. This bee or at least I think it's a bee was sitting here and I was able to get this shot of it. I was ecstatic.

That's a good shot...I avoid bees and other stinging insects at all costs.

@fishtiger58 I have had many bee stings, but the worst were 8 hornet stings at the same time in the palm of my hand...it still makes me crying thinking about the pain.

@AbbyGreenhill Oh wow that's awful. I have only had one at a time and that was bad enough.

@fishtiger58 Good luck :D I don't think I could stay still enough to take them, the urge for running away would be too big LOL

Bugs and birds are the hardest thing to photograph. Just keep trying one day you'll get a great one.

@suzzy3 Yes it's the only way you will get a shot of them. They are pretty cool, aside from the stinging aspect.

I like the idea of them being sluggish in the morning, but I would not get too close to a stinging insect for the sake of a photo. I wonder if butterflies are sluggish in the morning, I try to photograph them but they never stay still long enough. This is not the right time of the year for butterflies but in the Spring I will try rising earlier in the hope of finding one that will stay still long enough.

I'm not sure about the butterflies, but it wouldn't surprise is they are sluggish in the mornings.

Thanks so much. It took many many years to get better at it and I'm certainly not a professional
