I just have to share this letter...

My daughter received this message from her employer today. She works for WestJet Airlines. And there are a few Katelyns, Katies, and Kates that work there so the remark about her name is funny. Here's the letter:
"Hello, this morning I was helped out by a nice attendant named Kate at Toronto Pearson about 10am. I arrived for my Vancouver flight very early as I don't juggle luggage when travelling alone very well so wanted to get organised. Kate noticed me with my bags alone trying to weigh them to ensure I was within allowance. Without even asking her help she walked over and started giving me info, checking my bags, she walked me over to the kiosk to pay for my bags and get my boarding pass. It was just so HELPFUL! Not only did I not ask, she just offered, she said she had a little time and would do it with me. As a lone traveller I REALLY appreciate the 10 mins she spent helping me out! In the past week I've flown from Melbourne Australia to Sydney, LAX, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Toronto and now to Vancouver and this occasion was the smoothest and nicest check in I've had the whole time. I don't even have to elaborate the struggle I had finding my bags lost between terminals at LAX and no fewer than 3 different people telling me they don't know where my bags are, they can't help me, they'll fill in a lost form... SO frustrating walking terminal to terminal looking for a suitcase that came in on a different airplane to the one I flew from Australia and no one knowing what's going on. So someone stepping up saying "hey I have a little time and you look like you could use a hand" was mindblowingly helpful. That's all. At a time when passengers will no doubt get stressed and travel gets difficult I just wanted to extend a little holiday handshake of thanks to "Kate" with the long hair (in case there is another Kate) for being completely human and representative of not only of WestJet but of friendly Canadian hospitality. On behalf of a WestJet guest..."
My daughter texted me this with the heading that "Someone wrote in about me". I didn't even read it to myself. I started reading it to my husband and was bawling in no time. I couldn't be more proud of my daughter right now. I did post a little #proudmom note on Twitter and want to share it on Facebook but I think she would be embarrassed, which is why I'm sharing it here.
I don't have a picture of her in uniform; I tried but she didn't want me to. I am just so proud of her. It was just yesterday when a wee thought entered my mind (for some unknown reason) that she would come home and say she was fired. I don't know why that thought came into my mind except that she complains about having to deal with nasty people so much. This is almost the best Christmas present I could receive. Almost.

Three cheers for Kate!
She is the kind of woman that makes me proud to be living in the same country. You should be really proud of her. You've done a great job mom!

@patgalca Tell her that a possible future customer wants her to be nice to her mom as charity begins at home and so my mother-in-law used to tell me.

@1hopefulman When we were in Vegas she was so cheerful and friendly when dealing with sales agents, customer service reps, etc. Then she would turn away with her back to me and completely shut down. Drove me crazy. We'd be standing in line for something like the zip line and she is just standing there waiting while I'm chatting away with the strangers in line behind me. Weird gal.

She may see so many nasty people herself that she is resolved not to be one. It is a reason to be proud.

I think she wants to be nasty back because when she tells me these stories she says what her response is and I question whether she said it or thought it. It's always that it was what she wanted to say. One customer came up to her after another one had berated her and told her that wasn't nice. Her thought was, why didn't you stick up for me then? She's getting used to it. Now if she can just keep that attitude at home instead of just at work. LOL!

It is always easier to complain than to praise. If we would all remember to praise, when praise is due, we would all feel more appreciated.
