Pumpkin's rant of the day: Left Hand Doesn't Know Wht the Right Hand is Doing

Good morning. This is just a short rant as I'm about to go back to sleep, and I'm typing on my phone which is difficult! Well, I shouldn't be surprised about it but I had a call from work this morning. I had a call yesterday but I ignored it. This morning, I answered. Now, I've booked this week off work. I had a call asking if I was available for work today. Of course, I said I wasn't. My agent (I work through an agency) seemed surprised by this (even though the point of me working through them is that I can choose when to work, but that's a whole other rant). She then asked when I would be available this week (something she could have asked me last week instead of calling me last minute). Well, I said, in a slightly confused voice, that I would not be available at all as I'd booked the week as holiday. Again, she seemed surprised by this. I've had it before where I've told one person I wouldn't be available and then another person from the same place has asked me to work. So I don't know whether they just don't share the information with the right people, or if they just choose to ignore it. Well, obviously I'm annoyed about being called first thing in the morning to ask if I can work when I'm supposed to be on holiday from work! I did have a feeling that I would still be asked to work, even if my agent knew I wasn't available. Now I'm going back to sleep for a bit before I get started on study.

My niece gets called all the time for her work and days off. They are short handed and that is how it always is for her. I am sorry they woke you up.

They didn't wake me, I was already awake as I was up with the boys getting ready for school :) I did wonder the point in booking holiday when they ignored it anyway! Just as I've often wondered why they ask for your availability and then get funny because you can't do something completely different when they ask! They're not as bad as one agency I worked for who would actually try and guilt me into working by telling me they were desperate for someone (even after I'd said there's no way I could do as they'd asked).

Oh I hate the right hand / left hand scenario every time. It sounds as if they either have no way of noting important things like this down, or they just don't care. I've had plenty of times where information wasn't shared and I was disturbed. You don't poke the bear, especially when she is sleeping.
