90 kilos of dried caterpillars and other strange things that were confiscated by airport staff

On Listverse I read an article about some of the strange things that were confiscated by airport staff. A biology professor had placed the head of a dead seal in his luggage, and he claimed that he was going to use it in his job. A man who travelled from Burkina Faso to the UK carried 90 kilos of dried caterpillars in his luggage. A woman tried to smuggle a rare chameleon into the UK, and she had placed it on her headscarf. I have never packed anything unusual, but the airport staff once confiscated a pair of scissors that I had in my hand luggage. I knew that I wasn't allowed to bring a pair of scissors, but I hadn't forgotten that I carried the scissors in my bag. Did the airport staff ever confiscate any of your things?

An electric chainsaw, a drill and 6 tins of engine oil raised an eyebrow or two many years ago... They asked if I was going to re-enact some well-known horror movies! Not confiscated, though, thankfully.

I would have liked to see the expressions on their faces when found those things

@Porcospino They were a little perplexed, but it was in checked luggage, so...

I've had several pairs of scissors and nail files confiscated because I'd forgotten they were in my handbag.

The same thing happened to me. I knew the rules, but I had forgotten that I carried a pair of scissors in my handbag. I was not allowed to bring them so I had to buy a new pair of scissors.

@Porcospino I know it's a small thing and not very expensive but I was really annoyed the second time it happened. You'd think I'd learn!

I don't know why people carry strange things while travelling through air. There is strict checking at the time of 'check in' so anything can caught the attention of authorities at that time. Once a small scissor confiscated and removed from the luggage on our first air travel, the scissors were packed along with the shavings set by my hubby. It was a small careless mistake by us and hubby lost his wonderful scissors at the airport.

I don't understand it either. I was surpriced when I read about the things that had been confiscated by airport staff. Some people carry really strange things. I have made the same mistakes as you and your husband. I had placed a pair of scissors in my hand luggage, and the staff found the scissors and confiscated them.

Not me. I never carry much on my backpack when I travel. I always pack those things in my luggage.
