What are the most important things you have learned about online money making since you started?

I got interested in online money making in 2008 and in the beginning I joined many different types of sites. I didn't do any kind of research before I joined a new site, and I wasted a lot of time that way. Today I know how many scams there are, and I would never join a site without checking reviews or reports.
When I started reading reviews I trusted them too much. We can't trust every review. Some people lie about getting paid in order to attract referrals. Some people complain that they didn't paid. That might be true, but sometimes they 'forgot' to mention that they lost their earnings because they broke the rules. I have also learned that it is important to check of the date of the reviews. The fact that a site paid their members in the past doesn't always mean that they still pay today.
What have you learned?

With sites like this and many others is not to plagiarize and always be honest in what you write. Also to stay away from certain topic, like religion and politics.

That is an important point. Some people think that plagiarism is a way to earn fast money, but it is not acceptable on myLot and similar sites, and if you want to keep your account plagiarism is an extremely bad idea. Personally I stay way from discussions about religion and politics. There are plenty of other topics to discuss.

I don't like to discuss religion and politics either. As @Porcospino says there are plenty of other topics. I like a peaceful life!

i'm a silent reader on those topics. they can be informative. or give you an idea of people's thinking process and personalities.

@JudyEv It is true that writing sites don't make make us rich, but the extra money is nice. Do you use other sites than myLot and Infobarrel? I recently joined Expertscolumn, but I haven't written any posts.

you mentioned infobarrel in another post. is it similar to hubpages, that is, for informative, well-written posts?

@hereandthere Yes I haven't written there for ages but I still get a payment occasionally. Afternoons here (in Australian time) are very slow so I'm thinking I might start putting the odd post up again on Infobarrel. I always enjoyed the site but this is much easier - shorter and pretty much anything goes. I don't think IB pays so well perhaps - just that I have such a lot of articles there - 600+.

It all started with grabbing every site that I had access to. I am not depending on money earned online for my survival but the excitement is what I am looking for.

Something I learn is to always find opportunities and dont be contented. Nothing last forever, You must always be able to find replacements for sites where you earn money because Online earning sites always come and go.

That is true. I have seen a lot of sites disappear since I got interested in online money making in 2008, and I think that it will continue that way. We have to accept that we can use the sites for a while and then we have to find replacements.

@Porcospino I am positive that someday there will be more opportunities for international members and this dark age is temporary.

some sites are open that you can read everything (even like posts and use the search function) even if you're not a member. i also look at dates of reviews and don't like it when it lacks details or it's only based on one payout.

@hereandthere Yes, I think that many of us have more than one email address. I have a private email that I only give to my friends, and a 'public' email that I use when I sign up for different kinds of sites.
Old reviews tell us something about the development of a site. Sometimes the first reviews are positive. If the site runs out of money and stops paying the reviews become negative. But of course the reviews also depend on the users and their personal thoughts and experiences.

Open sites are great. I like to be able to read posts etc before I decide if I want to join a site or not. Sometimes you can't even see the categories if you don't sign up, If you do sign up you might discover that you aren't interested in the site at all. The dates are important when we read reviews.Sometimes the old reviews were true when people wrote them, but they aren't true today.

@Porcospino i think that's why people create multiple email addresses so they can use that for testing new sites, especially for sites like mylot where all you see is the green signup page.
old reviews can be used to compare with the new and see how much a site has changed, but then, at the end of the day, it all depends on the reader/user/member.
