The sound of a spider dropping makes me feel sick....

I have never met anyone who feels the way I do when I hear a spider fall down. It is probably going to sound totally strange to you but thought I would share to see what you think about it. So I live in Australia and I've seen my fair share of those 8 legged freaks. I HATE spiders. If I see one in my house, I don't care how long it takes, I will get it and put it outside. I don't like killing them. But if I see one on a wall, and it falls, and I hear the sound of it hitting the floor, counter etc that sound makes me feel sick. Just for like a minute or 2. I HATE it. Like I literally want to puke. I'm kinda doubting it, but has anyone had this problem? Or at least have an idea on why it bothers me? Am I weird? You can tell me.

I have never heard a spider dropping. I have seen rabbit droppings and dog and cat droppings. But i must confess that i have never tried to listen in. And i agree with Judy, i dont think i could even hear a spider dropping.

lol oh my god no that is not what I meant at all! I hope no one does that lol Just monitor their pet.. Soon as their dog squats to poop they rush out to put their ear close to the dogs poop shoot to listen in.

I find it hard to believe you can hear them hitting the floor or anything else. You must have much more acute hearing than I have.

In my place also there is spider, but I think it is too little to make a sound when it falls. Even, I never hear its sound when fall from the wall. Is spider in your place too big?

We do have tiny spiders. But when it gets really hot, we have bigger ones come out. And ewww I hate them.

@srisahara This also sounds weird but I literally cant stand anything with more than 4 legs. So spiders and Octopus make me...*shiver* Lizards I don't mind but I know a lot of people hate them. So I am guessing you hate snakes?

I was imagining the big spiders there ... they would have enough weight to make a sound hitting the floor. Like you, it would affect me as I don't like spiders either ... like you I don't want to kill them either. Gracious, I can understand.

@VivaLaDani13 I do understand for-real. Another thing here if we ever get to go fishing ... I don't want to be at a river when it begins to get dusk because ... snakes begin dropping from the trees into the water. When I read about how you get sick from hearing spiders drop ... I understood only too well. I ran ... climbing up a high bank under the trees to get back to our pickup truck ... I was so afraid one would fall on top of my head! I never forgot that ... never, never, never!

@GrannyGee oh my goodness! Snakes dropping from trees would be so horrifying! I feel like I've heard that happening somewhere in Australia too. I forget where but I recall something about that happening in a different state here. You are a brave one for running underneath all those trees!

@GrannyGee Thank you for understanding. I don't know what it is about that sound that makes me feel sick. I wish I knew! I'm glad to see yet another thing we share in common.

Hmm. I am not sure if you are weird or not. But I sure have never heard of anyone becoming ill from the sound of a dropping spider. As for spiders in general, I enjoy smashing them. They are fine if they are outside. But if they enter my house their lives are finished.

@porwest I don't know! It's just the sound or the witnessing of something falling I don't know what it is. Do you get many spiders in your house?

@VivaLaDani13 Not really. But I am a former exterminator, so I keep both the inside and outside as pest free as possible.

I am not too afraid of the spiders we can find at home, as they are mostly quite tiny, so I can't hear any sound of them dropping as well. I can't imagine how the sound is like, but I certainly do not think you are weird. Some people are just more sensitive to some kind of sound.

Here it is rare to see the spider, especially the big one. Perhaps the city is not suitable for the spiders to live. I ever saw a big one in the countryside and it was terrible.

Oh yes! Like a Huntsman or a Wolf Spider or something bigger even? I've heard it before, but rarely. Like you I always catch them & put them out. I've become quite good at it! I minimize unfriendly spiders by keeping lots of Daddy Long Legs around! A few months ago... ready for spider stories? .... a few months ago, I spotted a large female redback with eggs on the outside door, in the corner. She had knitted a great big "ball & chain" style web, purpose - built for catching very large animals (snakes, lizards, etc) & killing them with one bite, eating the whole carcass themselves. You can see a Youtube video of this which aired on the evening news. Anyway, our State Government made a law many years ago that we Must kill them on sight. I flat out refused to do this & besides, there was no way anyone could get in a clear shot with anything. I kept an eye on the situation each day (tricky to avoid!). One morning, after weeding the garden (any of my neighbours'd be surprised to read this, but yes, I do weed it!), I walked up to the door & saw a heavily pregnant Huntress go right into the strongest, stickiest web on earth & gobble the redback up in one gulp! I was very grateful, but later jammed her leg in the door accidentally (didn't see her hiding), breaking it off & watching fluoro blue goo ooze out.

@VivaLaDani13 Maybe the acoustics in your abode are fantastic too? I knew a guy in QLD who was chased around his house by a spider nearly as big as himself! I knew him well enough to know he'd never lie about this. His whole family was there! Have you seen how big cockroaches get on the streets of Cairns? They'd easily carry you away!

oh god those damn Huntsmans! yuck! Well not even them. Just any spider that is big enough to cause a little sound when it hits. Maybe my hearing is friggen awesome lol We did have one HUGE huntsman in our house once and I freeeeaked! Not that I put my hand anywhere near it but it seemed like it was the size of my hand. haha I cant even hand daddy long legs around. We have quite a lot on the hosue right now and I don't really mind them all that much but they still bother me being there.....in the corners on the room....looking down at me..... That is....absolutely disgusting lol ewww that is ANOTHER thing I hate. Catching their legs in something. Like when I try to capture spiders I put a container over them ( if they are on the floor ) and sometimes it the container falls onto their legs and my skin crawls. I sort of want to look it up on Youtube but I probably wouldn't last long. Just looking at them.....oh...eww no.

I've never understood people being scared of spiders. But then I don't live in Australia. If I did, I would probably understand.

I think this is my own personal fear. I am not worried about the bites or poison...I mean yes I don't want to die from a spider but its not that. It's actually the legs that bother me. Something about anything having more than 4 legs truly gets to me. Even looking at an octopus makes me shiver. I am an odd one. I don't know what sort of spiders you have there but we can have really big ones. Once had one in my house the size of my hand.

Lucky. I just don't like them. Big or small. We have had a few huntsman spiders in the house lately. Makes me cringe.

....how big are these spiders that you can hear them when they fall? I don't like spiders but thankfully I don't see too many. I have accidentally stepped on a grasshopper and I can still hear and feel the crunch it made under my shoe, eeegghhh I still get the heebie jeebies thinking about it.

@isweartokira Your first line of your comment made me laugh. When they are little spiders, I don't hear anything but medium size to big ( big is rare ) I can just hear them. Oh it makes me feel sickly. I'm also thinking maybe I just have good hearing. oooooh no! I'm glad it was at least under your shoe! I worry often about standing on some type of bug barefoot. Sorry that happened to you!
