Just in case

For the last two months (almost three) it has not rained one drop here in north Italy where I live. We have had an exceptionally warm, sunny and dry autumn and this is going to cause many problems soon as smog levels in some areas are already over the alert limit. No rain means that fruit trees and crops are suffering which will cause an increase in prices next year. If there is no snow on the mountains soon, as well as losses for the tourist industry, there will be a water shortage next year However as much as I know that we need rain and/or snow, I am enjoying the bright sunny days and every day for the past three months I have gone out for a walk 'just in case it rains tomorrow'. The weather forecast for the next two weeks is for this situation to continue. The 'end of season' sales will begin immediately after new year and I feel sorry for the shops who have sold barely anything of the winter garments yet. I was going to buy a new winter coat but as it is not cold, and even if the cold weather does arrive, it will not last past next March so I will use what I have and wait until next year to buy a new one I have filled the freezer with home-made single portion meals because if and when it does snow I will not go out as the paths become difficult to navigate and I will stay in until it is all gone. So 'just in case' I can't get out' I will have food for quite a while So once the weather changes I will have nothing to do as I will not go out and the food is prepared so I will be here myLotting all day and you have all been warned 'just in case'

We have not hada drop of rain all this year and fall was horrible with fires in the southern California forests the worst in many years so we really really do need rain here badly.

It is very important, here in India all pulses are costing more then vegetables and even milk because of lack of rain.

It has been snowing on and off here, and a couple of times I have to miss a turn in my drive to work because I cannot stop my car to make the turn - the roads are too icy. I can almost swear that I am driving way below the speed limit, but I guess I was no match for black ice. I would love to see some sunny and warm weather for a change even for a day. But when summer comes, I am sure I will be wanting some cooler weather.

Oh gosh! Please take care driving in those conditions I got rid of my care just over a year ago as I no longer needed it but when I had it I never ever drove oce the snow arrived as I was a danger to myself and to others. I would get lifts to work. Now I no longer work so it is not a problem. We had a very hot record breaking summer and that, added to the dry and warm autumn, is going to bring about so many problems. The only positive is that we are saving on the heating bills so far.

You must know that if it is rain that you want then you should come over to England for a while.

If it is snow, then nobody would like to move, expect when they have to visit family

How about organizing a Rain Dance to appease the Lord of the Rains? The experiment was successful (a lot more successful) when we had on at another discussion.... and there was almost a flash flood at the OPs place. Maybe we over did it

Yes it changed on 31st December. It turned cold and then fpggy and then started snowing in the mountains on saturdat 3rd. Here it rained yesterday and I went out as I had an appointment with my son. This morning was sunny and warm (and I went out) but after lunch it clouded over and I am here The forecast for the weekend is pretty grim with rain and a high of 3°C so I doubt I will put even my nose outside

seems to have been raining like mad here for ages. I was hoping for a white christmas but don't think that's going to happen. Unlikely i'll ever be snowed in here unlike where I used to live.

Our temps are flip flopping. We had five days of 70's last week and then it got cold down to 34 degrees and now it is warming up again. We will be wearing flip flops on Christmas.

I pefer a briight sunny day to a dull cloudy one indeed but I also go out in the rain too, The fresh smell when it rains is beautiful If it snows then I don't go out at all and will be on here every day until every bit of it disappears

Rains were not good here too, so prices of pulses are up, this time pulses are costing more then vegetables. Cold arrived late here too, but this does not means we should ignore it, I brought 2 new jackets and 3 new sweaters and now there is winter. It won't last long (till Feb-March) there would be spring. Summer-Rain-Winter is a must, all weathers must come one by one and this will keep everything in order.

Iagree that the seasons must follow each other or nature will go crazy. If we have no rain soon there will be no grass for the animals and no water in the spring, both for human use (including industry) and for the vegetation too.

This is the 52nd day of no rain here in Switzerland, the air is not very polluted, but there is no snow and the skiing resorts are not happy.

Same here. No snow and none likely before at least the end of the year and the amount of damage being caused by the lack of rain seems unimportant to so many people who don't see beyond the end of their nose

@mysdianait You are right, most people seem more concerned by the fact they will miss their holidays on the snow, but this is not the real problem.

Will you be on your own for Christmas? It's pretty mild in my part of England, and not too wet.

No, no. On Christmas day I will be at my son's home all day. Then on Saturday and Sunday (hopefully) I will have no need to go out and can stay at home and do whatever I want. Strange how some parts are flooded and some stay dry. Here it is mild all over Italy this year.

@jaboUK Oh yes I should have remembered that as I know you told me before. I was in Wisbech and there once it snows it lies about for ages. I don't like that at all. I also remeber the cold winds form the North Sea too when I was there. Here my town is sheltered at the foothills of the mountains so most of the snow, if it comes, stays on the top and I only recall very few winters in the last 40 years where it was a real problem down here on the lower levels. The gritting and sand crews are soon out and about once it starts and the snow ploughs deal quickly with the main roads so that it can be 'business as usual' for most people.

In previous years there was already snow on the mountains by now but this year is so different. Here in the north where I am, we habe usually had so much rain during the autumn that some rivers are close to high flooding levels. That is not the case at all this year and if it doesn't rain soon there will be problems of a different kind

No kidding! I like going out in the rain but not too far and not for long walks. I live in town and when it rains it doesn't take long before my clothes are soaking, even if I use an umbrella, because the passing cars drive through puddles which causes the rain water to hit everything in its reach So I will spend much more time her than now

Just in case I get busy doing something else I will respond to your discussion immediately. The weather here is unseasonably warm. The next week is supposed to bring us rain, no snow, so I don't need to pull out my snow shovel.

Oh really? It is so unfair that narure dshare the same amounts of rain all over the world and that some places have too much and others too little Some one and some countries will definitely see an increase in their exports if the situation here doesn't change soon. Our agriculture is being crippled with no rain to feed the crops.
