What Creationists Say About Dinosaurs

To maintain a belief that God created the World in 4004 BC Creationists inevitably have problems when anyone with half a brain cell mentions the dinosaurs of the Triassic / Jurassic Period and countless other prehistoric creatures found by palaeontologists. Creationists have three choices imposed by claims about dinosaurs. 1/. Accept that a literal interpretation of the Biblical creation story is impossible to adhere to. 2/. Totally deny that dinosaurs ever existed. 3/. Claim that there were dinosaurs but assert that they coexisted with early humans, travelled on Noah’s Ark and only went extinct some time between the lives of Abraham and Jesus. Most creationists refuse to reject Genesis. Many creationists accept that the evidence that dinosaurs did exist once is too overwhelming to dismiss. They do however refuse to believe that the oldest dinosaurs date back 230 million years and the most recent ones trace back to 65 million years ago. How could they when the ages of the ancestors of Joseph, step-father of the virgin born Jesus only go back to 4004 BC and stop with Adam? The Creationist Museum in Kentucky actually asserts that all dinosaurs were vegetarian and friendly to humans, co-exiting happily alongside Adam & Eve in Eden. This makes The Flintstones cartoons into social documentaries rather than silly cartoons. Dinosaurs on the Ark are easily explained by Creationists as being naturally small, or babies and therefore took up little room on the Ark. Even if they were all taken onto the Ark as newborn vegan infants there are 700 known and named species of dinosaur that have had their bones and footprints found in the rock stratas around the World and hundreds more potentially not yet discovered by fossil hunters. The dinosaurs alone would be too many for a crew of eight humans to tend to as well as keeping the Ark-ship itself afloat and on course during the flood. Add to that the thousands of birds, insects, reptiles and mammals that still survive, as well as now extinct post dinosaur era creatures like mammoths & sabre toothed tigers and the Ark gets rather crowded. Dinosaurs are not mentioned once in The Bible, but to be fair neither are aardvarks, wildebeest, zebras or Emperor Penguins. The word dinosaur itself was not coined until 1841. While paleontologists claim dinosaurs died in mass extinctions caused by comets and a few small survivors evolved into birds, creationists see this as impossible as Genesis specifically lists birds as being created on the 5th day, a whole 24 hours before land animals, including elephants and the Allosaurus. Creationists believe that dinosaurs were dragons as dragons have been seen in legends and referenced in The Bible too. The Behemoth, which is almost certainly an elephant or hippopotamus, as referred to in the book of Job is not a giant dragon as the Creationist Museum would have us believe. I watched one Youtube of a Creationist claiming in all seriousness that dragon-fire is a product of breathing heavily after energetic exercise causes flared nostrils to spark and emit flames. It’s a wonder I haven’t exploded myself after my energetic laughter on seeing that from a grown adult. A few Creationists dismiss the immense fossil record as a conspirational hoax perpetrated by scientists who are Satanists and possibly planted in the rocks by Satan personally. The obvious fact is that there was no Noah’s Ark and the events of Genesis are mythical and that claiming they are literally true is just plain stupid. The dinosaurs are believed to have had very small brains. The same is true for many creationists. Arthur Chappell

I love the suggestion that dinosaur fossils are a hoax. This would have to be a tremendous undertaking to create and bury such a vast amount of material, especially in igneous rock.

Hey, they didn't have a lot in terms of entertainment back then, and they had to think of something to keep them busy for decades on end.

@arthurchappell I have been almost caught a few times burying fossils, but I shall continue to take the risk in order top perpetuate the hoax.

If you really want to see their heads explode, then try asking them how the world became so populated from just Adam and Eve ... or again after the Ark when there was only the mother, father and siblings with their wives.

@arthurchappell Even if Adam and Eve had other children, there would have to at least be sibling incest, but don't mention that to anyone, because apparently nobody ever noticed. Maybe that is where the original "Don't ask, don't tell" policy was created.

@purplealabaster Cain & Abel were another case of social workers ignoring the danger signs.

yes it takes an enormous leap of imagination let alone faith - they see Genesis as somehow answering every required question but as Adam & Eve are never seen having other children, something very incestuous was going on from the start

I do not know if big dragons exist, but it is sure that small dragons still exist in our days, look at the image of this Baby Dragon from Indonesia. About Dinosaurs, it seems that they all "smoked", this is the reason they were extinct.

I used to debate with creationists...I've since utterly given up. In my opinion they are so fixed on their view that reasoned argument, backed up by the most recent scientific facts, is utterly ineffectual. I don't like to waste my time banging my head against a brick wall. Ps...happy Christmas, hope you have a nice one.

many creationists are impossible to reason with as they simply refuse to budge no matter what evidence counters their stance - hope you had a great Christmas too @Mike197602

There is no harm in questioning our beliefs to understand them better, but some are afraid their Gods (there can be only one Creator anyway) will be pretty cross to put it mildly. Science is rewritten all the time, then why not we think aloud about matters that make no sense so that it could make sense after tough evaluation. If every faith sticks to the text and interprets them as superior to others, then we are toast. Thanks for this educational and thought provoking post - siva

yes if they depend too literally on the text there can be no progress or thought development at all
