Some Childhood Memories

The challenge was thrown down by user Lori A Moore in:
http://www.mylot.com/post/2877649/seven-childhood-memories-challenge
It has been picked up by other MyLotters, so I thought I would add mine for everyone to consider:
1) Spending time at my Grandma's house in the summer months.
She lived on a hill overlooking the beach in the town of Swanage in Dorset. The view from the back garden was bliss, one of the best places to be in summer. We would walk down to the beach, through the town, play on the beach all day then have to climb the hill in the evening - I swear it was twice as steep going up as going down.
2) Those magnificent men in their flying machines - a film about an air race from London to Paris.
3) My paper round - this was a way that I could earn some money and be a little independent (and the money didn't go on sweets/candy).
4) Football and Cross Country Running
I loved football (what you Americans call soccer) and was very good at it, but a quirk of timing meant that I didn't get in my school team, so I decided to take up cross country running, once I started training I became very good at it.
5) Freemantle school.
This was my first school, but was closed when I was 10, so I had to go to another school for 1 year. Not necessarily the best school, I just remember it.
6) Frequent visits to London
My mother and father both came from London (where I was born) but we lived on the south coast (just over an hour away) and we would regularly go to visit my nan (my father's mother) who lived right next to a park, that was a great place to play.
7) Where Dad Worked
My father was a builder who worked for the port authority. At work he had a hut that he and his mates used during breaks etc. At that time getting into the port was not complex, the guard knew us as "Harry's kids" so we got in and went to his hut - definitely a cool thing for a little kid to do.

Thanks for sharing your childhood memories. I took up Lori A. Moore's challenge too and wrote several separate discussions about them here on MyLot. It was fun to bring back those memories. I enjoyed it immensely and I am really still adding to them as I think of things.
I've been to London a couple times but it must have been exciting to live there when you were child.

It is funny you say that because to me London is just another city, sure it is my birthplace, today I see cities like New Orleans. Casablanca, Marrakesh, Cairo, or Denver, as exciting and unusual places to visit, not London, which is now overcrowded and dirty. I guess it is a matter of perspective.

@pgiblett I'm sure you are right about that. I used to live in Denver, Colorado for 2 and a half years. My daughter was born there. I loved it there, but I understand that that city is suffering from AIR pollution pretty bad. I would never have thought that would be a problem in Denver.

@Morleyhunt Making things better for our children is a good thing.

@pgiblett my grandparents lived overseas, I did not see them often. I made sure my children had many opportunities to spend time with their grandparents.

One thing that I could never forget when I was a kid . . in fact, I always smile every time it comes to my mind - - was our game of "house." A game of house is an imitation of a real family. There's a father, a mother, and lots of kids. I was always the father and the prettiest girl was always my wife. Whew, I started early!

I enjoyed spending time at my grandmother's home too, but she didn't live near the beach. We stayed there for several weeks at a time, me and my siblings and cousins around the same age. She let us walk all around the city unsupervised cuz you could back then. Favorite times.
I'm including some other tags others have used for this challenge, to help others and yourself if desired, find more of them.

@MarshaMusselman To my mind the real purpose of tags should be to attract search engine traffic, but I don't think MyLot gets much of that.

@pgiblett I don't know about that yet. Since we don't see the views we may never know. I thought the same way about hubpages, yet I have been making a bit off that each year even without being social on the site. It's all from online traffic, I think.

It sound like a charming childhood. My grandparents were a big part of mine too. Soccer eh? not a sport I've ever watched except when my kids were in school and played. Interesting items to read, I need to do this too.

Of course there were bad times, but it is much more important to share the good times with a post like this one.
Football/soccer has important to me and I have played it for most of my life, I would like to play it today except I haven't been able to find some friendly games here in Canada, I am not interested in being part of a veterans league.

Lovely memories. We have a Fremantle city in West Australia but it's spelt with only one 'e'.
