Managed to get an appointment date for my cataract operation

At last I have had a little good fortune and suddenly everything seems to be moving along well. I was in Greggs buying a cup of coffee earlier and received a call on my mobile from an unknown number. To my surprise it was from Withington Hospital in relation to my forthcoming cataract operation. It seems that they have had a cancellation and rang to check if I would be available. Naturally my answer was “Yes” because I have no plans to do anything else. The appointment is set for 8-30 AM on Tuesday, which is far earlier than I had anticipated and is a real bonus. Maybe I can end up with a holiday during January after all, without any danger of actually missing an appointment in the process.

We need lucky breaks, happy for you. I have sort of chickened out for the "other" eye surgery as I feel alright with one good eye! But I know the earlier the better, so better bite the bullet - siva

I am seriously apprehensive about the whole procedure, but my eyesight is now so poor that it has become necessary.

@Shiva49 There is no denying that the improvement in my sight will make a vast difference to me.

@Asylum I am sure you will get the best of attention. I contribute to a charity in India which sponsors eye surgery. Almost all get affected by cataract and many millions live with it to lead a purposeless life. They are able to get the basic surgery done for GBP 10 per person and that is a real gift to get back life in their years - siva

I hope that it goes well for you. I had my cataract surgery in 2014, in both eyes, and I have never regretted it, as I am seeing things in a whole new light. The colors are so vibrant and beaurtiful, instead of the gaudy colores I was seeing before my surgery. I was a little hesitant at first, but I am certainly glad i did it, as I have never regretted it, and I hope you don't either. I can drive without glesses and watch tv without them as well. I only need reading glasses and that is for closeup work as well as reading my bible. Ir sure does feel good not to have to wear glasses anymore, as they were so thick and gave me a real headache.

It is certain to improve my eyesight, but will be unlikely to allow me to see vibrant colours because I live in England.

@rosekiss My eyesight would have to improve vastly for that because Buckingham Palace is 200 miles from me.

@Asylum I have never been there, since I live in rhe states, but you should be able to see the gurards at the palace really good after your surgery. There uniforms should be very colorful.

@rebelann It may seem a short time when I look back in retrospect, but while at the hospital it is likely to seem a long time.

It is a struggle to read what is written here at times now, so I would expect Tuesday would be a NO and Wednesday remains to be seen.

OH brilliant I am really pleased for you. Trust me you will not regret it at all. I hear Tenerife can be lovely this time of year and it will definitely be warm. There should be some bargains about as the kids are back to school on Tuesday. Blimey that is not early I had to be there for 07:30 still I guess for a retiree it must seem like the middle of the night! Good luck and I hope all goes well for you. Happy New Year too!

I am still naturally seriously concerned about the operation because the thought of my eyes being cut is not pleasant. The worst thing about the time is that my pass is not valid until 9 AM, so I will have to pay the tram fare.

@Asylum Do you not have someone taking you there? Someone should accompany you really Barry more so for when you are coming home. They will anaesthetise your eye over an hour or so so that you will feel nothing. Because it is so close up you will not see anything. You can punch me if it hurts! Now there's an offer!

I think it would be a perfect time to relax. Of course you can't lift things over a certain amount of weight and you have to take eye drops and possibly wear special sunglasses. Yes, sounds like the perfect excuse to have another pack the luggage, haul the luggage.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Not really, just as long as I can find somewhere with decent weather instead of the constant rain that we seem to get here lately.

I did intend to look around today, but fortunately I did not do earlier or I would have been scheduled to fly about the same time and have to cancel either the operation or the holiday. Now I shall wait and consider booking something on Wednesday when I know the next appointment time.
