Welcoming in another year, Happy Fresh Start Day!

United States
January 1, 2016 6:34am CST
When I was young welcoming in a new year was a celebration. The older I get it seems to be just a reminder of what used to be. Yes, its a new year and a new number on the calendar, but is it really anything new? Life doesn't automatically change when the ball drops on Times Square or the fireworks go off in countries across the globe. But it does give you a reference point - a starting place if you want to make change to yourself and your little place on earth. None of us know how many new years we have left. I plan on living my life and being happy and content in where I am right now. I have no complaints and I hope to be able to say that when New Year's Day 2017 arrives in a year. Happy Fresh Start Day to all of you! Happy New Year 2016. Photo: pixabay.com/en/paper-snakes-star-background-image-1043278/

Taking it one day at a time, that's the best I can do.

I have seen 66 New Years so far, so I must be running out of them by now.

Happy New Year to you and to your husband Abby. You are right, we do not know how many New Years we are going to celebrate. I would appreciate to see 2017, because 17 has always been my lucky number.

@AbbyGreenhill I can climb the steps again, even if it hurts. I think it will be fine in a couple of days.

Even when I wasn't content I didn't make them since most I knew I wouldn't keep.

You are so right when you say the older we get we tend to remember years past. I'm happy seeing a brand new year and have more behind me than ahead of me but my outlook is usually pretty positive. Happy "fresh start day" to you too

I think the older we get the more we appreciate all things, especially time.

True, new year day is just a day in our life, and our life seldom changes for better or worse in just a day. I think it is good to have some plans for the future, and something that we can work towards.

The New Years Celebration has certainly changed over the years. It's good to look back and remember fondly those times. Life may not automatically change on the dawning of the new year but it sure "jolts" you into a renewed sense of things.

life may not change, but I saw some stuff that stated that it appears the change of year in our helps helps us to really do that whole fresh start thing

It's nice to have a fresh start day. It can be any day but New Years is a good one in my books.
