We Lose People Along The Way

When I was in junior high I had a friend that was sort of an odd person. I always have tended to be drawn to the underdogs and those outside the normal society norms. She had a younger brother and sister but they were usually with their dad. Yes, it was a broken home. She took care of the place while her mother either slept or drank. I stayed with her a lot and rarely saw her mom. She would come in late at night and plop on the couch. She and I snuck her mom's car once and drove out to a outlying town to visit her gang affiliated boyfriend. Some how we lost track of one another. I happened to be looking through a second hand store and found a sweater that had suede on the front. It had four or five names written on it. I recognized it immediately. She had worn it one night when we went to our favorite hangout and saw our favorite band preform. She asked for their autographs and not having any paper she had them write their names on the patches of suede on her sweater. I decided one day to try to locate her. I found her number in the phone book under her married name. I called it and talked to her husband for a long time. Didn't learn much but he said he would have her call me. I never heard from her. I wonder what happened to her, how she is, how life treated her, etc. I think it is sad that we lose people along the way. I am always so sentimental and wonder what ever became of them. Do you?

I do not know the reason, but some people when get married and move to another location do not want to keep the friends they had in the past. I had a couple of friends that never call me back after they married.

@celticeagle I also thought that possibly they have something that they have something to hide and they do not want that talking with old friends, their husband could know.

Ah you mean suede. That really puzzled me.

@celticeagle Sometimes it adds a bit of mystery to a review.

I don't wonder what I did to them because it is what they are doing to themselves. I have rekindled old friendships and like you I have found that many could not be revived.

They (whoever they are) say people come into our lives for a particular reason and when that is over they disappear just as fast.

I have heard that before and I try to remember that that is the scheme of things.

I know just what you mean - I don't know anyone from my youth any more, apart from my sisters.

I don't know why some people disappear from our life, but we must move on. I have lost friends, too.

Oh yes, I have lost track of some friends also. I am also curious sometimes on them. Hopefully she will return the call, was it recently or long ago you made the call?

yes I miss lots of my old friends - surprised how few old college pals are on Facebook, at least under their own real names - be nice to reunite with many of them

When you said "I lost track of her" I thought you were still in the far past. Also it's "Suede". An odd word to try to spell and it took me a minute to think of the spelling as well. I suppose she was doing well enough, perhaps she had just grown to be a very private person? Didn't want to et back in touch? I often think about this guy that I went to elementary school with. I don't even think he was in the same elementary school for the entire five years. We would walk around the playground together and talk, it was probably the most fun I had. I don't remember a lot about it now, but what I do remember is fond memories of walking with him. I guess he was my "boyfriend". Anyway sometimes out of the blue I will wonder where he went. I still remember his name, but I've never typed it into facebook or anything. I don't remember if he moved away or just disappeared. It seems he just disappeared though as I can't recall ever him saying he was moving.

so odd to find a garment she had once had like that, it makes me sad to think of all the good friends I lost touch with

Yes I do. I had three good friends in high school and I haven't heard from them in decades. My class reunion is this year and I'm hoping to go. Hopefully I'll see them there. It would be good.
